I don't have any proof of this it's pure speculation based on my own models, that many of the older models are rhodium covered and many of the new ones are not. I guess this has to do with better mixing of metals to give the watches a whiter look with out rhodium. I could be wrong just thinking out
All white gold jewelry is plated i rhodium as it naturally has a yellowish tint to it. Anytime the rhodium wears which happens after a few years it can be polished to look as it did when it was brand new. Patek will get it looking just as good as it did the first day.
