All white gold jewelry is plated i rhodium as it naturally has a yellowish tint to it. Anytime the rhodium wears which happens after a few years it can be polished to look as it did when it was brand new. Patek will get it looking just as good as it did the first day. In regards to the case changing shape slightly that does happen to some watches. Patek polished my stainless 5980 and the edges are not as sharp. Everytime you polish you lose metal so the case will change if you do it to often depending on the model.

Patek white gold refurbishment

 By: Grisar : February 20th, 2013-04:36
I have a Patek with a rhodium plated white gold case. Some experienced watchmakers (not from Patek) suggest that I should never have the case refurbished because of the following two reasons. First, it's not possible to remove the rhodium plating complete...

Here comes an answer:

People speak a lot of B.S. Patek can polish and re-plate the rhodium plated WG cases like those would be brand new. I do not know how they do it but if somebody else has done it, they see it in Geneva immediately. The re-finnish a rhodium plated case is c...

I agree with Dr. Kol. I have had my Patek Perpetual case refinished twice over the past 12 years and each time it gets replated it comes back as new! I highly recommend it. Do not worry about a thing it is in good hands with the manufacture. Cheers. Jason...

Any comment on a platinum case?

My 5960p has a number of scratches and dings as well as a small dent on the lug. Would PP be able to refinish a platinum case in the same manner as the white gold and would you advise me to do so? Regards, wilson

was badly scratched and came back just like new! And it's even cheaper to re-finish a platinum case than what it is a rhodium plated WG case. Best, Kari ...

Many thanks for the kind answers.

A very small remark:

just a part of Patek's WG watches are rhodium plated. Best, Kari

Very true Kari

I don't have any proof of this it's pure speculation based on my own models, that many of the older models are rhodium covered and many of the new ones are not. I guess this has to do with better mixing of metals to give the watches a whiter look with out...

Very well thought loud.

That indeed seems to be the case. Best, Kari

Case shape

 By: Grisar : February 22nd, 2013-04:58
Thanks for addressing the issue. I guess that it is earlier to keep the round case shape while it is difficult, even for Patek, to treat Nautilus and Aquanaut case shape. The most difficult for polishing is maybe the Manta Ray shaped case, i.e. 5100.

Easier not earlier :-)

Correction for the last post. Should be easier and not earlier.
