This was my first watch - first REAL watch... the 116520 Black dial! This black beauty absolutely captivated me. I am still enamored with this watch and will never, ever sell it. Best, Robert
It was love at first sight with the 116520 - the first Daytona with an in house automatic movement. I know many these days prefer the zenith movement Daytonas, but back in the day this was all anyone could talk about.
Been thinking about how differently collectors talk about the steel Daytona depending on which generation they came up in. The 116520 introduced the Calibre 4130 in 2000 - column-wheel, vertical clutch, entirely in-house. That was the real turning point.
Just a text file on my computer from 2004 when I first started shopping, I eventually purchased my 16710 in late 2005. Contents below: 114270 Explorer $4,250 16570 Explorer II $5,000 116713 GMT Master II $8,925 116718 GMT Master II $22,750 16710 GMT Maste
The Rolex Daytona 116520 is the first true Rolex Daytona in history, as it is the first Daytona with an in-house movement. There really is nothing more to add.
