Patek Philippe: Patek Philippe 2583J

A rare one it seems as I believe less than a few hundred in any metal of this reference were produced in the mid to late 50s. The likes of the 2526 actually made in larger numbers, around 2000. Only a few 2583 seem to have turned up at auction these last 30-40 years so anyone has further information

I’m personally keeping an eye out for a nice 5140 such as 5140p blue dial as these are looking like bargains compared to the asking for some 3940!

The asking for the 3940 has really shot up but whether a lot of these are actually moving is another thing. Many are over polished watch only pieces not collectors set by any stretch. I’d say that’s a possible later service dial on the 3940. It could be very last of the series so some variations. The different thicker font (later San serif font on checking no 5 and J for example) for the date is a typical tell tale sign. I would pass on this example and look for a better example
