Thanks for sharing. I have always wanted to have metal bracelets on precious metal case but afraid stainless steel bracelet may scratch or damage the inside part of the lugs. Given platinum is softer than stainless steel. Appreciate any expert advice. Thanks.
It happened to my 5990 (though it’s a vertical clutch vs lateral clutch on 5170). Sent it in for service and it’s all good. It will cost you both money and time (9 months in my case) for the service.

find some other pieces for the time being. There are many other great options including other Patek models. It’s not worth paying over the retail because of the hype. Just my 2 cents.
Additional complication like GMT, and quick release strap with optional titanium bracelet. One major limitation with this watch right now is the spring bar being too close to the case, making it impossible to use any NATO strap or bracelets.
I have both and each has its own appeal. 5711 for everyday wear and 5990 is my travel watch. Until my Chron button broke just recently, my 5990 is out of commission.
