If you are going to wear it on your right wrist, if you are left handed, then there is not a huge demand. This being the fact that only around 10% of the population (lower in China) is left handed. Good ole SS or Titanium. And a Plexi crystal. No cracks or breakage. And good idea to get insurance on any watch over several thousand dollars. YOu can get a cheap policy added to your home owners insurance policy for very little money. I think we have to remember that Panerai originally made "tool"
I feel for the OP. Rough time. Cannot believe it cost that much. But, I guess as in your analogy with the car, it is good to have insurance for expensive watches, so if something like this happens it will be covered.
