my love for the 3970s

The perpetual calendar chronograph is a technical masterpiece of Patek Philippe and represents the pinnacle of its manufacturing philosophy. With the 1518 and 2499 now virtually unattainable, the 3970 remains a readily available model with a relatively hi

Dear Emmanuel, thank you for expressing in detail all your well reasoned points. Yes, Patek has definitely wanted not to be solely defined by Nautilus.

And while I love Nautilus, when I think of what defines Patek and the great watches it has made and continues to make, the watches that I think of are non sport models including: 1518 and its progeny, MRs, WTs, rare handcrafts, PCs, chronos, ACs and Calat

In his comment to my thread dedicated to the Patek Philippe/Somazzi partnership , our dear Gordon aka GLau asked me how many retailers were able to have their signature on some Patek Philippe watches . Here's my answer : A / I have identified 58 retailers

Patek 1518 - Some great Alternating thinking from amanico and Miranda from some 9 year old thread.

Just a couple: amanico: Patek Chronograph 5370, 130, 1463. The epitome of fine chronographs? Miranda: Patek Philippe: the lure of the steel complication

Phillips is auctioning a 1518 in steel that they sold 9 years ago (for all the money in the world)

It’s the same wristwatch, 863'193, that set a record in 2016, and the first steel 1518 - somewhat important to Patek history as it inspired later steel comps (like the 5004). While its a very nice watch in its own right the focus here is more economic tha

I prefer the 5270 to the 5970....

.....as the subdials aren't as centrally positioned due to the larger and perfectly proportioned movement. I also had the 3970 in my collection and find it stunningly beautiful. Unfortunately, its proportions on the wrist never completely convinced me. I'

Patek Philippe ref. 5270J-001

A few weeks ago, I've been able to try on this ref. 5270J-001 and was amazed at how refined it looks and how well it sits on the wrist , even on a smaller wrist like mine. I had in mind the way this reference has been criticised for its larger case ( 41 x

Emmanuel, in a literal sense I think your original statement about 1518 IS correct. More people are looking to buy 3970/5970.

That said I think the 1518 is a much more important watch historically and extremely rare to find especially in mint condition. I have seen many. My impression is that only a relatively small percentage are in unpolished mint condition. I very much look f

Thank you for correcting my statement

with such eloquent numbers. Putting the 1518 together with the 5270 was a bad idea indeed and I will modify my statement. As for the 5270, I couldn’t agree more with you and will post about my recent brief hands on experience with it tomorrow: when I trie
