Dear Patekova,

I also prefer the Roman numerals on these references, so 5160 or 5159 would definitely be my choice. Price wise, the 5159 is definitely a relative bargain and I hope I’ll be able to see one in person someday, as I think I would like it very much. Your 549

I think the 5160G is a fantastic watch in every way. It is a watch I would be thrilled to wear, although it is not a watch I expect to buy. If I were to head in that direction

5159G would be my choice to buy, particularly the standard model with Roman numerals. It is a great watch and while quite expensive it is a relative bargain in today’s world of brand new Pateks. That said already owning the 5496 in platinum which I like e

Hand-engraved madness: yes or no?

I find the Patek Philippe officer-style, hunter caseback, Retrograde Perpetual Calendars ref. 5160/500 and ref. 5160 quite fascinating . But I sometimes wonder if this hand-engraved madness isn't a bit too much . What do you think ? They all measure 38 x

Patek Philippe's retrograde perpetual calendars

Note that this thread includes only the "simple" retrograde perpetual calendars, meaning those with no other complications. Therefore, the references with a minute repeater and a tourbillon (5013, 5016, 5213, 5216, 5217, 5316) are deliberately lefts aside

Patek Philippe reference 5160/500R Watches and Wonders 2024 part 4

Replacing the existing white gold reference 5160 is the new version in rose gold. Inspired by a vintage pocket watch from the museum, the 5160 is entirely hand engraved including the silvery opaline dial. The case has a diameter of 38mm and thickness of 1

Thanks Shun for all your comments and reflections. As I recall in Patek’s description of the dial the gold markers were described as pink or rose.

They do look to me more yellow than purely rose or pink. Maybe a combination? Of the standard retrogrades, 5050/5059/5159 and 5496 my clear favorite is 5496. My all time favorite retrograde is 5016 but that is a MUCH more expensive watch. Also I love 5160

Undeniably, many collectors have shown a strong preference for larger sizes during the last 10 to 15 years, and this is also the direction Patek is taking for most of its newer models, including the Calatrava collection.

I like numbers, so your reply made me look up some interesting data in response. First off, we currently have VERY few in-catalog "men's" models (defined for simplicity's sake as 5xxx- or 6xxx-references, though this is not entirely accurate) of size less

I hear you :-)

And can definitely understand the "nerdiness" point, I'm the same looking for as much as information on my watches as I can, However, these details are typically a work of research and not coming from the back of the mind..... Therefore, as its really wor

Correct, the whole 5160G, hence including the buckle, is in G gold (of course easier to work with than P, but this definitely doesn't detract anything from its spectacular details! ;-)

Similarly, for consistency, both the case and clasp of the 5088/100P are in Platinum. However, the base of the dial where the engraving is performed is again in G gold (and the black portion is enamel) Hand-engraved P case Hand-engraved P buckle The hand

Beautiful buckle!

My favorite buckle is the 5160G buckle. It reminds me of the engravings of a Purdey gun. I'm very much a sweater person. I do like my wool and cashmere sweaters. I'm not big on scarves yet - I find that Europeans really know how to wear scarves and I find
