If I read this correctly, the watch was last physically seen when it was put into the bag at your house. My guess would be that someone at security at the airport saw it when it went through the scanner, and quickly managed to sneak it out of the bag before it was returned. What a bummer and I feel
If you're considering getting another piece, then don't SELL anything for cash. Trade the watches you want to get rid of towards another piece - you will get better value retention that way. And don't rush into any decisions, take your time, look around and make the right deal.
