I posted about this issue several weeks ago (and I got very few replies). I don’t think it’s a matter of quality it is just that they have used too much “cushioning” in the strap. Do let us know if it softens up for you.
It is an impressively detailed article. He raises so many questions that one wonders why Phillips didn’t withdraw the lot before the auction. Who knows whether the winning bidder (who is on the hook for $454k) was aware of the questions raised in the article.
I’ve owned several vintage Cartiers with alligator leather straps and, whilst these have all been worn-in to varying degrees, it appears to me that the straps Cartier is now producing are just less supple than those of old.
