Well, very many thanks for the responses - they've been very helpful. First off, I think regrettably I now have to discount the Amvox. My lifestyle is just too rough and tumble (a 2yr old child, gardening, handiwork, sailing, etc) and I suspect I'd end up dipping it in soapy water just one time too
