I remember reading somewhere that many modern watch movement designs start out by making a simple functioning movement movement more complex. The price of a watch also dictates that a certain min. amount of parts be used. Is this sort of like those cartoon elaborate contraptions which the cat builds

Perhaps alt. materials would also fit RM's original design intention. I would like to see ceramic casing used in RM( it isn't already is it?). What about forged carbon like in APROO team Alinghi? On the flipside, perhaps tantalum could be used to provide the feel of heft but its hardness would make
