Girard Perregaux: Original GP Deep Diver: first automatic dive watch?

So after several months of sitting in a drawer I pulled the watch out and started to learn more about it online. PeterCDE apparently had written about this watch on purist a while back : http://gp.watchprosite.com/?show=forum.post.new&fi=6&pi=4946478&ti=748453&sx=3 http://www.p178hos

Girard Perregaux: Vintage Deep-Diver Gyromatic Information Appreciated!

Hi All, I recently acquired a GP Gyromatic Deep-Diver from a family member. I had an opportunity to take it to a trusted watchmaker to look at the movement as well. I did some basic research online and there was one very comprehensive report here on the purist that suggested that this watch may be t

Rolex: agree..but...

Thank you Baron for your response. Yes, I 100% agree with you as long as the history of the watch was disclosed if known, or when asked. As long as there is no pretense that the dial was not original to the watch, and both separately are original and mated, I too would have no problem wearing the wa

Rolex: Fraud...Rothstein auction PN Daytona looks fake!

I have been researching PN daytona's and have noticed so many variances, it's made me very wary of ever pulling the trigger. As some may know, an infamous florida lawyer is having his watch collection auctioned to help payback some of the victims of his ponzi scheme. Ironically, when i was perusing

Rolex: incorrect hands, that's what I thought!

That's what I thought. I found it very curious since functionally, it would be very hard to see a white hand on top of white subdial. Similarly, it would be hard to read a black seconds hand atop a largely black, albeit environmentally faded, black dial. How can we trust anyone if we can't even trus

Rolex: question about Newman Daytona at Christies

I was watching the Christie's watch auction today and noticed a 6239 Paul Newman cosmograph with black dial and subdial (sale 2453, lot 323). It has a "tropical" dial and the red outer ring on the dial is faded, as is the "daytona" on the dial. The peculiar thing is the subdial's hands are white. If

Horological Meandering: thanks for the responses

Thanks for the responses. In moments of weakness I feel it's completely rational and deserved given the hard work and sacrifice its taken to make a good living. then again, i know if I ever saw that much money in the flesh that I would never pull the trigger. In the end, I think it's healthy to have

Horological Meandering: How much would you pay for a watch?

I feel like my limit keeps rising. It started out as anything around a few hundred dollars was really expensive, and now i've been known to spend 20k or more for a single watch. i feel crazy for even contemplating spending 100k usd or more, but in my mind, I feel like it's justifiable for the right

Officine Panerai: I wish this was the only version, but likely to come in steel!

I hope they don't issue a steel version either. I think some people assume that Panerai will maximize their opportunities to make more money by offering a variant of the 373, and feel the enthusiasm for the piece is being blunted by that assumption. How much you wanna bet that if OP came out and sai
