Vacheron Constantin: Post 1955

That type of dial occurred for a short time. It would be just after 1955, but not into the 1960's. The case style, having "Automatic" on the dial, using the Maltese cross as markers, dates it to a pretty narrow range. The crown is a non correct replacement, as are the hands. The dial has a bit of pa

Vacheron Constantin: The QDI

When the QDI came out, I actually loved the case. So interesting and unique. And this from a guy who hates the Overseas with a white hot passion. Hated the dial. Hated it. I really thought we would see examples with contrasting metals. Like rose gold and a white metal, platinum or steel. Palladium a

Vacheron Constantin: Issues with translation..

I'm 100% certain that guilloche dials were not ever stamped. I love these watches more than any other and this was really what distinguished them from their competitors, at least up until 1955. The odd thing was for how short a span of time these watches were produced. The earliest appeared about 19

Food & Wine: Cast Iron Cooking.

90% of what i cook seems to be my cast iron skillet. Even for omelets. I have a cast iron stew pot, but round, not oval, with a bail handle. I love truly elemental things in life. There are surprisingly few.

Vacheron Constantin: Sandwich dials

I really love the watches they made in the 1930's. Of the sandwich dials, I've seen four. I have two, the other one is in gold with mobile lugs. Maybe it's another style we will see in the Heritage collections at some point?

Vacheron Constantin: Black dials

There seems to be a chronograph from the 1940's in the museum that has a black dial which they say is original. Other than that, in my 25 years of intensely following the market, and collecting, no, I've never seen an original black dial. Or even many black re-dials. Which is odd, because they are b

Vacheron Constantin: I was flummoxed by that move. Of course, at their rate, it will be re-issued in a few years.

I remember thinking when they first came out that we would see contrasting metals for the case and a wide variation of dials. That did not happen.

Vacheron Constantin: Two tone cases is one of the things they did well.

Here is what the crown should look like. Mine has a refinished dial, but it is the finest redial I've ever seen. Too bad they didn't make black dials back then.

Vacheron Constantin: I have little issue with patina

Some types of patina are perfectly acceptable, and this is a good example. It's pretty heavy, and includes spotting, but it's honest ageing and not "damage". I separate the two by incident. If it gets wet, damage, if it lays in a drawer and tarnishes over a long period of time, that is a more natura
