Hands-on with the ref. 5100 J & R: my personal thoughts

So, I've finally been able to see Patek Philippe 's ref. 5100 in the metal, both in yellow and rose gold . I first discovered the yellow gold variant. Ref. 5100J-001 My very first reaction was: this model feels much better than the original " manta ray "

I like all three of these!

I always liked the 5489 and the 5109 despite the round movement. And I really like the 5124. The 5124 is very special to me because of the art deco design. I especially like the 5124J variant. To me, that's just such a great classic timepiece. I once said

Meeting a Patek gentleman

Over a cuppa and watch chit chat with a fellow purist, I was privileged to get a hands on view into some really nice novelties - one of which is older than I am. This is the essence of our hobby - mechanical marvels, and Patek being near the top of crafts

Two pictures of the 5124J

Before it completes two weeks on the wrist tomorrow and heads back to the bank. I just love everything about this watch, from the understated clean dial, the warm gold and the art deco design...of course the shaped movement completes the package perfectly

New pics of a new catch

Just taking some fresh pictures of this one. Forgive me for not cleaning up the back before the shots. Sits really nicely on the wrist and I love the rectangle shape of the watch. The shaped movement is a huge plus to me, and was the deciding factor when

Took a while, and a lot of effort in persuasion, but this is now home with me

A very quick phone pic for now, not a great one where the yellow looks like white, but just took ownership of this very nice 5124J today. My first and possibly only precious metal watch, and one that broke my own perceptions on colored metal. More details

Thank you, Fernando,

for your insights. Much appreciated. BTW, I spoke with my AD yesterday about this model. She told me that the 5124J has already been discontinued and that the 5124G is expected to be retired next year! So, I may have to make the leap soon. The dilemma, ho

The best I can do: a 5124J

Ok, ok, it is not a 5124G but it is still a 5124 ! I took these pics during a diner. Funny point is that 5 of the guests were wearing Patek Philippe watches including 2 women... Fr.Xavier
