I'm so sorry to read this ...

some people live alongside pets, but we live WITH pets. Our lives are shaped around them, similar to a family with kids. Unlike kids, who normally lead their independent lives and peave our homes, the pets depend on us until they are left by their last breaths.
It is weird that "personality" is commonly attributed to dogs and cats, horses (which only rarely live in a household), but not to other animals, be they mammals, reptiles or fish. Fact is, however, that if you study your aquarium, then you'll realize that even fish demonstrate individual characters and personalities. And a ferret, that stays with its "family" for 7+ years, has an extremely rich repertoire of behavioural expressions that root in their individual personalities.
I can really understand that you are sorry to lose this wonderful companion, and I hope you will finally find comfort. Maybe you will host another companion in the future?
Regards,
Marcus
