I called three Patek Philippe authorized dealers in the region. Hope this helps!

 

I called the Miami boutique and two other Patek Philippe stores in the "Southern Region" of America. I explained to all stores that I was an editor collecting information for a watch blog, and I had a hypothetical problem that I was convinced would be covered under warranty and that the watch was a year old and showed no major scratches nor dents. I also mentioned the watch was not purchased locally, purchased at an authorized dealer, and was under warranty since it was only a year old. I asked if the watch was determined to be under warranty at the Service Center, would any of the shipping charges be refunded.
The Miami Boutique (Design District) did say they would charge exactly $300 for shipping - exactly as our original poster said. And that this would cover round trip shipping. No refunds of shipping charges if the watch is determined to be fixed under warranty. The gentleman on the phone was very professional, confident, and courteous.
The second store estimated $250-$300 for roundtrip shipping on a warranty claim situation. I consider this very consistent with the Miami Boutique. No refunds of shipping charges. I was transferred twice on the phone; a gentleman picked up the phone, transferred me to a lady, who transferred me to another different gentleman who answered all of my questions.
One very helpful individual at the third store I called said if I wasn't in a rush, he said he could hold onto my watch for a few days until he had another piece to ship to HSWA and this would help reduce the shipping cost if he shipped two watches, and there would be a chance if it was later determined to be a warranty issue that the return shipping would be free or so small that the store wouldn't pass it on to me! What a helpful guy! His stance on the return shipping cost seems to imply that HSWA charges a small amount or nothing at all in the case of a warranty claim and that if it's insignificant enough he wouldn't charge me - which echoes my thoughts in my first paragraph. He did not quote an exact number for shipping to HSWA but implied the shipping cost would be nominal if I wasn't in a rush and followed his plan to wait until he had another watch to send in.
Out of the three stores I called in the American South; all three said they were going to charge me shipping. The third store seems to want to be helpful and offered some more flexibility.
So, seems like there is some consistency, all three would charge me shipping to HSWA. As for the amount, the first two were in the same range, the third store seemed to be likely significantly lower than $300 - although he didn't give me a quote. Hope this helps!
