Amerix now presenting himself
Aug 28 2009,09:25 AM

To your cordial invitation for an introduction.

Amerix is a mix or blend of Amery and "Asterix", the scrappy little Gaul in the cartoon series who, together with his fellow villagers, took up the cudgel against Caeser's Roman Empire.

In this case, the Independents against the Brands.

Although my personal resemblance is more to Obelix - his rotund sidekick, if not in the least endowed with his phenomenal strength, I am hopefully less obtuse, say dim-witted.

Sometimes, however, I am on the side of the Romans!

Since I am crawling along at snails-pace to my upcoming 70th birthday, I think that you can easily distinguish between me and my chum in this photo.

When, if indeed it does come ;-, it shall be celebrated most privately with the three time-keepers of my choice:

1) the Antiqua
2) the Jean Calvin Montre à Tact
3) the Richard Lange Pour le Mérite

- and many others!

And, throwing all caution to the wind, I am an American leaving since decades ago and still in Hamburg, but well out of the limelight and as prominent as tne smile on the Cheshire Cat -"Alice in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll.

Passions? To name one, the books and films of Alain Robbe-Grillet. Although his kind of passion is not my own.

Also some high-end, tube-related audio equipment and stuff.

Enough said - more would bore you!

Cheers!

Amery - or amerix - whichever one you prefer!

. . . and now that you've got the uploading sorted out, how about a photo or two of the audio equipment? There are a few audiophiles here, including Bernard and Andrew . . . cordially, Art

I am just learning to get around the camera - but assureidly will come back with photos, as soon as I can.

Meanwhile, a special thanks to you for the privilege of being here at all!. My feelings and values are very close to those on the Forums and yours as well - at GO.

Thanks again for the tolerence and acceptance!

Although my life-style is definitely due for some improvements, in the direction of more life with more style.

More exposure and less enclosure!

Cheers to you again,

Amery - or was it amerix??

P.S. If I ever get out of line, you can always bang me on the head with your daily "beater" smile

I would be overjoyed to meet up with you!!

For many years I have never travelled, although the reasons have been more psychological than physical - today more physical. wink

If you can manage to make it somewhere between Frankfurt and Dresden, perhaps even in - hehe - Hamburg, believe me you will be my Guest of Honor.

And now for some of life*s little secrets:

The RL PLM is the most beautiful watch that I have ever known or possessed or worn or ....

Ja, sure, Amery, we all know that - but the time-keeping?

I wore it most of the day yesterday, fell into bed with it (to my eternal shame) and woke up with it -- again -- dead-spot-on! This is not official information.

Again. - the RL PLM is the most beautiful watch that I have ever known. owmed or ever worn."

But does it keep good time?

The paramount question.

Does it do whot it is supposed to do?

The answer, so far, is an overwhelmingly, powererful YES!

Apologies, dear moderater, for veering so far Off Topic on TimeOut into a watch theme again, but mosty in reply that

Stephen in *always* welcome, and in fact a very

special guest indeed.

A welcome to your introduction...

Definitely good to have you as a participant in these meanderings.  The Independents always welcome a supporter (even one who has a Roman bent (;-))!

A warm welcome to you…

Hi Amery,

Great to have you amongst us. You have already mentioned a number of interests that are dear to many of us on PuristS and TO: books, music, films, food, HiFi, travel, watches, vintage, and all mixed with a sense of humor. You will fit in very well around here!

Warmest regards

Andrew

Glad to meet you, Andrew

And thanks so much for that Very Telling Pic! In this case I am Obelix, after being confused and confounded by the operating instrunctions on the latest video device. My friend and business partner Dieter actually does bear a resemblance to Asterix. Nice Zenith there, by the way. No time as yet to try out my new digital camera, with its many pages of instructional material, but for now a Pic from a few years ago, in the music room of my apartment - only for that - not thiis tiny room where I sleep and write watch-relateded posts . this time OT! - to the Purists. Tubes and Celtic horns to you! Amery

Thanks for sharing that …
Aug 30 2009,21:22 PM

Very nice. I don’t recognise the power amps. Perhaps we can get an audio thread going again when you have read that camera instruction manual; I would love to see some more. It looks like a fairly ‘live’ room? Love the horns too. That puts you in a whole ‘other’ category of audiophile.

Impressed.

Andrew

Hi back, Daos!

I feel very flattered ane encouraged by your reply. . .

Ah, forget all that!

I admire your writing and photography - recently about your Habring2. I could really get to love that watch ...

as I do your presintation, one of the very best that I have seen.

---------------------

Love you madly!

---------------------

If you can find a copy: Alain Robbe-Grillet - Le Voyeur - or whatever the englisch title is:

A travelling salesman for watches revisits the island of his birth to present his new collection. Somehow time itself becomes out of joint, and he relives or re-imagines a horrendous crime while cycling throgh the isle in a kind of moebius curve before making it back to the ferry, the mainland and Reality - but does he get there?

For watch fans a must! An off-base read from the 50's.

One of my all-time favorite books.

Cheers!
Amery
