That’s an interesting perspective, Art. I always assumed that music was important to each generation and something that provided a ‘soundtrack’ in those formative years.
I know I am not alone with this, but there is a period of time, from about 1973 (I was 9) to 1985, that I can tell you what year most songs (that reached the charts) were released. This is like a map to my formative years and what I was doing at the time.
I expect my kids to do the same and I try and expose them to the broadest range of musical styles and periods as I can. While I despaired at some of the music (such as Rap) in the ‘90’s, we seem to be emerging into a more inventive and diverse musical period.
So, did we really live through a ‘golden’ musical age, or is every teenager’s music important to them?
