According to ticket contract, virtually every airline does have the ability to kick passengers off after asking for volunteers. So I can see from a legality perspective United didn't do anything illegal. But considering how it was done, to enforce their stance by dragging someone off a plane to me seems frightening.

Seriously, an airport police officer would drag someone off a plane like this. Police officers are supposed to provide peace and calmness and are specifically trained to defuse situations. Just a sad situation.

Yeah, I've been denied boarding at the gate, but never once I've already been seated.
