Patek Philippe

Ok, let's assume all this is true...

And it's not just an isolated event that's now resulted in mass hysteria hyped by the Internet. Notwithstanding that it seems to be in violatation U.S. consumer law, how exactly does Patek enforce said policy? In other words, when presented with a valid COO (stamped, signed, and dated from an AD) how is it determined that you are not the original purchaser? Does Patek ask for a birth certificate, government issued ID, or DNA sample to match the COO? I presume that my wife or significant other would be allowed to take my watch in for service at my request. I'm not usually one to advocate dishonesty, but if it says "John Smith" on the COO then who's to say that I'm not John Smith?
I'm not doubting the truth of what Dancing Fire has presented, but until proved otherwise I'm left to conclude that it is a simple misunderstanding that Patek will correct once they are aware. They are many who are quick to complain about Patek Philippe, and while some may have valid reasons, I'm not convinced that this is one...
