Patek Philippe

leather Nautilus

My first Patek was a 5711G, gray dial with strap. On the black crocodile strap gorgeous watch that could be worn at nearly every occasion. With the synthetic strap less elegant but far more easy to wear 24/7 and great for summer and beach. I would recommend a Nautilus with a strap any day. The 5726 on strap is sublime. As is the 5712 and 5980.

Now why did I part with the 5711G? I got intoxicated with the blue Nautilus dials and did not feel there was room for 2 Nautiluses in my collection at the time. I went for a 5980/1A, sporty and beautiful. Loved it in so many ways. But somehow I missed something in that as well. That was when I met the 5712/1A. There was no doubt. I let go of the 5980/1A and now feel like I have landed. Lovely review by Mark in Paris by the way. My 2 "core" daily wearers for the past 2 years have been this 5712/1A and the 5960P-001. Perfect complements and always work. However the decision away from a leather strap Nautilus was not driven by the strap at all, it was the blue dial.

Now as far as your question on the leather strap, it is great on the Nautilus. Very sober look and like the option to put a synthetic strap on. What I really dislike however is how difficult it is to change straps. I like changing my straps around every now and then, particularly as seasons change. And on the Nautilus I would see how I at times would like to put the synthetic strap on for summer or going on holidays but would be unlikely to happen frequently as it would involve bringing it in to shop to have it done. I would no recommend doing it at home as these screws are so sensitive and difficult to open, to me at least.

But despite this, my next watch purchase is quite likely to be a Nautilus on strap. Hopefully not too far in to the future f the stars align that is!
