Patek Philippe

Mark, thanks a lot for your detailed review ...

about an outstanding and beautiful watch.

I can follow your thoughts very well and agree with most of them. Yes, the slimmness and smoothness of the case and bracelet is an important part of the beauty shown here. I think there are quite a few people which agree about the beauty, but still don´t understand the effort needed to deliver a bracelet and case on that level of execution and finishing. Some of the best RO´s come close, but only close - in my book. But it is less about good or bad, it´s more like a slightly different approach.

The movement - cal. 240 was introduced in 1977, as a thin base movement for perpetual calendars. Still today it is outstanding (for what it is) on several levels, but not the best you can get for money today - if I may say so. Is PP able to deliver something more sophisticated - a refined finishing for example? Yes, without doubts. In the volume needed? ... Probably not and it would change a lot of their current approach. Once you follow that path ... lots of (process) changes are needed ... At the end, only a few people like us will notice it anyway and I doubt it would help to sell them more watches.

Still I would like to see a slightly more sophisticated successor, which could be THE new benchmark in the industry, in the (near) future smile

Mark, it was a real pleasure to read your review and (once more) to look at your pictures - taken in style. Thanks!

Oliver
