Thinking about this overnight
Apr 11, 2014,04:26 AM
I went to bed looking at a pix of all four watches as a set. The original, in its 35mm size is just perfect in all aspects. It stands out in the whole set.
For those fortunate to own (or find) the original, our as our dear Blomman have both colors, then you are set for life! But for the rest of us, we now have something, which, IMO, looks good on its own. I see them really like two different watches, but similar. There are pix up on the web which will let you flip on yr iPad between both versions, and get the feel. From pix the outer esthetics between original and the platinum, to me are quite comparable. That is what I mean, for thse who can't find the original, I will for one be very grateful to be able to wear the new design.
I will be excited to wait for owners of the original to see the new one in the metal and gain their feedback from an aesthetic perspective. Yes we can all agree about the movement. But we have to be realistic about the business side in today's market, and we may not understand th future business direction relative to use of said Chronometre movement for other designs. Remember, it is Richemont, and they have multiple platforms for Chronometre. And, with the exception,of certain designs in the JLC platform, JLC wants to hit a target dollar segment. They have done a remarkable job with this. And IMO these are very good looking watches
Question : how many could be sold in SS for three times the current list of SS? Nicolas has pointed out in his Hybris thread the drive by JLC to keep it tight with desire. If you forego that point and say just make 100 in the design specs everyone wants, then this watch is a loss leader for JLC? When Lange makes a limited run of a design, they are using a movement already in place. e.g. Zeitwerk Phantom. And when not, we are talking about six figure watches. I can't see a exact tribute as a six figure watch.
I usually do not post with this heavy an opinion, so my apologies.
Best,
Joe
