For a vintage Collector, or, let's say a lot of them, the originals are the originals, and the re editions / Tributes / Hommages, cannot compete with them.
It is logical.
Let's think about that in another way... The current Patek Chrono, the 5170, is, like its predecessor, a tribute to the older ones.
Does anyone complain? No. They are much bigger, the movements are more interesting et ceatera....
A big part of the current JLC collection hs a strong link with the past: See the Memos, the Reversos ( no need to even mention the Tributes To ), the Calendars, and so on... They are strongly linked to the past.
Even the Master Control can be seen as a Tribute to Geomatic.
In parallel, there are offers which have nothing to do with the past: The Gyros, the Extrem Labs, the Hybris Mechanica à Grande Sonnerie, the Duometres in general, and several othr examples take their distance.
Rolex? No need to elaborate.
The TT Geophysic cannot be confused with the original, due to the size, the writings on the dial, the case back and the movement.
It is a modern interpretation of the original. It is a new vision.
A manual movement wold have been very expensive to develop ( with a consequence on the retail ) because it would have been dedicated ot this Watch and to this Watch only... 1158 movements, 1158 watches, and a new movement just developped for this Watch...
I ma not sure Watch afficionados would have been ready to pay 25 000 Euros, so a bit more than the original, for a re edition...
That was an intense and long way to think about this Watch...
Think about another paradox: Some would have been very pleased to see a twin sister of the original while others would have been shocked to see JLC sticking to the original.
You can never please to everyone!
Best, Z.
