Well, I believe Omega has done a great job with developing advanced technology for their movements. Or at least they have been...

...quite successful at marketing that idea. However, Rolex has come up in the past few years with improved movements which are great at keeping time accurately. Then there is the issue of warranty which both brands have extended.
All of the above in terms of rational or technical considerations. However, after a certain price point psychology seems to prevail over strictly technical aspects. And the truth of the matter is that most people, or so I believe, will rather be seen with a Rolex than with an Omega. The power of the name Rolex remains very strong.
That said, there is the issue of scarcity. Scarcity of Rolex steel watches, which in many cases will gear someone looking for sports watch to buy an Omega, which is readily available. Indeed, I strongly believe that Rolex must put an end to their watches being sold in the gray market.
Finally, there are personal considerations such as the size of watches. My wrist is 7 3/4” inches and I refuse to wear a watch bigger than 40mm (Rolex). Yes, I wear the Swatch Sistem 51 because it is so light, it is a plastic watch. Omega, in this case, builds watches that are way too big for my taste. The Omega I like is a 38mm Speedmaster day-date I own.
In summary, at the Rolex price point people will prefer Rolex because of status, name recognition, prestige, or so many other silly and even absurd things we consider important. Omega is trying hard but Pepsi has also tried hard to debunk Coke.
I hope I have answered according to your request.
