Ultra-Chron 431
Hi Andrew,
I too was very interested in Lukas's posting as I have a Flagship Ultra-Chron as well.
It was in need of a service when I bought it about 17 years ago, and since then I have it looked after by an ex IWC master watchmaker in Schaffhausen, Switzerland and it's performance is absolutely top class.
It is a 431 with a movement number of 50669121 and is a little unusual insofar as it is inscribed Flagship where others seem to have Ultra-Chron marked.
Also its date window is between 4 and 5 o' clock - not 3 o' clock. The watch itself has a nice slim steel case and lugs, and the removable back is marked Longines Ultra-Chron.
You mentioned the winding on yours being not too reliable, may I ask if you can hear any frictional sound on auto-winding? Because a long time ago I had the same problem which was traced the the movement's incorrect location in the case. After this was adjusted the winding was nearly always at maximum.
The watch is very reliable indeed and is accurate to +2 seconds a day as originally advertised! What people were talking about, saying that the 431 had reliability problems I have no idea. Properly looked after this is one of the great timepieces.
Maybe I shall post some photos.
