Brilliant Tony,
There were really a lot of variants and, as Graham comments above, they got more outlandish as the 70’s ramped up. The average price for the steel models is around 75,000 yen, which seems like quite a high price, but we would need more information on pricing of comparable models from other companies to compare.
Your Ultra-Chron is very nice. Is that a linen-print dial, for want of a better descriptor? Mine is a matt brushed silvered dial but the polished accents on the hour markers and logos catch the light and add a bit of ‘sparkle’. I particularly like the asymmetric ‘tail’ of the minute and hour hands on your watch.
Do you know the serial number of your watch and the year of manufacture? I am trying to work out when the 50 million numbers were used.
Your quote from Hampel is interesting and implies that many Ultra-Chron’s had ETA movements. So far this watch seems to be running about +3 seconds per day, but prefers to be on the wrist than resting.
Regards
Andrew
