Help me choose...

May 16, 2021,09:58 AM

Dear fellow purists,

It seems that the stars are getting aligned for me to accomplish a long time dream in ordering my first 911.

Main brief: a 100% “driving pleasure” focused car to be kept for the decades to come. It’s probably my last ICE car and I want to make it memorable. I live in Zurich and have amazing mountains road nearby ( Including the holly trinity of Grimsel/Susten/Furka passes) but don’t intend to take it to a track. I need the back seats for 2 young kids so a pure 2 seater is not an option.

My base package is already defined: Carrera S, manual transmission, sport exhaust, race-Tex / aluminium interior...

Now comes the big question: what overall “mood” do I want for the car? There’s so many options that final results can be totally diffferent... Here is my current shortlist after many brainstorming hours (screen shots from the online configurator):

Option 1: the “no risk” everyday chic. Beautiful and discreet, perfect for office commute

Option 2: the 70’ fun, perfect for Saturday afternoon cruise along the lake

Option 3: the “racer”, perfect for Sunday morning in the alps

=> Curious to hear which one gets your vote

Cheers

Seb

If you don't plan to go on a track, I would exclude the Nr 3. Do you have another car, or will it be your only one?

If you have another car, I would go for Nr 2. If not, I would go for number 1, much more polyvalent. Best, Seb. I am very happy for you. Nicolas

Here is what I would do: no matter what color I would pick the wing (racer look but not too much), the out of the Colors you have there I would pick one of the two blue...

Because you also said you would keep it for 10 years or so, so don’t want to get bored with the color. But then what I would is wrap your car with a more risky color for the first few years. Why? Because you then to enjoy more then one color in the life o...

This sounds like a good plan

You can have your base car as option 1 and wrap it into option 2... so that you kill two birds with one stone. I would not take the wing if your purpose is not very high speed German autobahn driving/track

My choice

Nr1, Dark blue Carrera S. You chose manual, i wil go for PDK. Why i do not want a GT3 is i go not to a racing track. I hope you wil make the right decision and show us your 911 when you got her. And which watch you gonna wear behind the iconic 911 steerin...

What a lovely dilemma!

 By: westrop : May 16th, 2021-10:25
Number 1 would be my advice given your requirements. Personally, I would delete the sports exhaust but that’s just me and would go for the cabriolet- even if finances meant going without an S model! Whatever you choose you won’t go wrong! Enjoy and I’m lo...

Thanks for the very valid insights !

Which perfectly illustrates the dilemma I currently have a grey RS4, fantastic car but almost a bit “boring” / “too easy” in spite of the 450cv. Our other car is a full option dark blue X3 (30i): I’m already covered for long distance trips or everyday “lo...

In my opinion, go for ...

Option 2, as it shows off the 911 body shape.

You have kids

Go for Option 1 - this is our life now.

Going by the 3 photos shown...

Option 3 caught my eye and with that exact rim combo. A fine car in any color you choose in the end .

No writing on hood or flanks, no wing, for me.

 By: Gwai : May 16th, 2021-11:34
Somehow I'm confident a car like this will never get boring but that's just me. Option 1. Cheers Marc

Clearly no 1 for me on your choices shown. Beautiful and discrete.

 By: @lberti : May 16th, 2021-12:04
May i sugesst to look at the GT3 Touring? Have you considered? A gentleman tourer that you can actually race. No fancy wings or writings. Cheers from an Ex-Zürcher

Very exciting! If you want to keep the car for the next few decades, I would go with #1

 By: Fastwong : May 16th, 2021-12:49
All the options are great! For me, the classic 911 shape is very much disrupted by the wing and if it's not going to be on the track the wing seems a little pointless to boot. A ducktail would have been nice option. As for the color, particularly on the 9...

I would choose in the order you posted: 1-2-3

 By: MichaelC : May 16th, 2021-13:04
The last one looks silly with the wing compared to the other two. Just my opinion though, I am not really into exotic cars. Probably why I prefer the cleaner ones.

the red/orange one ...

 By: P@trick@Belgium : May 16th, 2021-13:40
... I think looks very nice, i saw a few here in Belgium and it stands out just enough myself i drive the Targa in GT Silver with blue roof.

You did say a S but you did not mention 4S

 By: Yves007 : May 16th, 2021-13:48
For me, all wheel drive it is the most important. Specially if you are replacing your RS4. Funny enough, this is my story of exactly one year ago. I sold my tuned 420HP satin painted S4 to my son and got a 911 C4 Black Edition which I intend to keep for m...

Option #1 👍

By: India Whiskey Charlie : May 16th, 2021-13:49

the more flamboyant the better, so the 07!

 By: Spencer Karrington : May 16th, 2021-14:23
And i mean, why can't you drive the orange car to work everyday?!?!?!

You have kids and are buying a 911. Bravo. I started with looking at the 911, 812 Superfast and DB9.

Ended up with a pre-owned Toyota Sienna Minivan with 129,000 miles on it. My wife drives a new Beamer. I now live vicariously through Amanico and Jocke’s posts. Don’t be me.

Truth for most 😂

option 3 without wing

 By: Gelato Monster : May 16th, 2021-15:00

My vote is for number 2.

 By: lm6 : May 16th, 2021-15:02
IMO the third only seems relevant if you plan for trackdays (and be aware they are addictive!). The first option - although very good-looking - is in its appearence more of GT than sport.

Do you need the 4S because of road snow/ice?...

 By: mdg : May 16th, 2021-15:16
...or is it a 'good conditions' kind of car. I'd go '70s just because...it's supposed to be fun.

A wonderful dilemma to have: my advice is

 By: nasseriq : May 16th, 2021-15:43
Buy the first one, the deep blue. A beautiful colour. You mentioned you may keep the car 10 years. My taste changes every year, so what appeals now, may not appeal in 10 years. Go with a loud colour scheme and you may not want the attention in 10 years ti...

No 1 as a every day car imho

 By: Watchonthewrist : May 16th, 2021-19:08

Be audacious and go for Option 3. Enjoy yourself

 By: WH_ : May 16th, 2021-19:28
Knowing that you already have your daily cars taken care of, thus being discreet is not the objective anymore, then get the car that will bring some childhood in you, after all, you're buying it for fun, not for A-to-B function. knowing Zurich, you'll fit...

I will go Shark blue....

but without sport package and racing stripe on front...

Like many others here

 By: Esharp : May 17th, 2021-15:15
Faced with these three options, I’d take #1. But, also like many others, without the Porsche decal on the side. Generally my proposal would be to keep it simple; no wing, in a timeless colour. There is a darker metallic blue which is lovely; also the plai...

the racer is awesome!

Get the Cayman, let one kid ride . . .

. . . at a time. They can have an ice cream with the savings.

You want to keep long term?

 By: wootwoot : May 20th, 2021-22:32
If your goal is really to get and keep for 10 years and you want to drive it, get the simplest 911 possible, the base car. The more exotic it is the sooner it will break and the more crushing the cost will be once off warranty. I've had a bunch including ...

Easy choice....
