Here I´m sharing some shots of my Nakayas Dorsal Fin 1 and 2 to add some fuel to your interest in these beautiful pens.
My Dorsal Fin 1 is equipped with a "B" nib which writes like an European M. Dorsal Fin 1 has the "fin" on the cap only. DF2 has fin on cap and body which makes for its curved "katana like" shape.
The Dorsal Fin 2 is fitted with a Music nib. The DF 2 is truly spectacular in design. You can view its characteristics in my notes included.
I understand your point about adding too many pens to a collection or "working" pens set. I also try to keep a reduced group in rotation and inmediately cleaning them before storing after changing a group.
I also like lighter pens than the heavy full metal ones, though I like to feel certain weight on my hand and I really love the looks of full silver pens.
The Nakaya Dorsal Fin 2 weights around 35 grams which is very nice as I personally don´t like very very light or very thin bodied pens.
The fountain pen is such an intimate and personal instrument! So interesting to study them.
Look forward to know if you finally jump on the Dorsal Fin!
Best cordial regards, Abel
PS: the katana in the pictures is just a decorative piece and not a real one I regret!
