I think it’s all about price protection of certain pieces and selling them without discount. That is fine, and certainly up to Lange. Maybe it will strengthen the brand, which is good for Lange. But my cynic’s antenna is buzzing.

1. Upgrade brand perception . 2. Reduce availability of high end models on the grey market. 3. Steer customers to boutiques where they can see models in the metal. 4. Better visibility over demand. I'm sure there are others.
