Our WS event is LIVE now! Theme: “Four Must Have Watches”
Mar 24, 2023,13:36 PM
Hello dear friends!
I have the pleasure to be your host this weekend starting today Friday and running till Sunday 26th at around 5 PM UTC.
As I explained in my previous announcement this time I had the unexpected help of a good friend while thinking about the Theme for the present edition.
This old friend is not a watch collector or has any special interest in timepieces but he approached me knowing my passion for them to ask my advice: he wished to own "a few good watches to cover all the corners".
Perhaps four watches for every situation a normal user of watches could have without having to ask for a loan to his bank or going too sophisticated he said. Just four Must Have watches in your collection that you can show me now, he added.
After thinking a bit and discussing the matter with my friend while searching in my watch box (and considering that some places we need to visit in our city sometimes are not safe) and trying to keep his four watches limit I adviced him the following:
1) An steel Rolex Date Just or Grand Seiko time only watch (I showed him my Snowflake). This watch could be worn in his business or social engagements requiring to wear a suit and a rather formal watch.
2) A dive watch: a Rolex Submariner or a modern Seiko diver for wearing on weekends or for his usual Summer holidays in places by the beach and sea being free of concern about taking the watch on the wrist in those places.
3) An Speedmaster: my friend told me that he wished to own a chronograph and I immediately suggested this watch because it is presently easy to find in an Omega boutique or watch shop and at a very reasonable price considering its quality, and with all its history behind I felt he would love it. As a matter of fact when I showed it and talked about its connection with the Moon landing and Space Race he said "that´s the watch for me!"
4) An Stealthy watch: As I said before this is the type of watch we need when visiting those places which makes to wear a plain steel Rolex (or any other fancy or costly watch) an invitation for trouble. And I mean Big trouble.
I´m very fond of my Hamilton Khaki field mechanical with black steel case. It´s rugged, precise and low cost and very good looking watch. My friend liked it so much though he said he would probabably prefer an automatic version of this watch.
So our theme this weekend is be "Four Must Have Watches" from your own collection that you would recommend a good friend to buy if you were approached for your advice.
As usual you may submit photographs for any or both Wrist Shot and Static Shot categories. And a "Best watch of the Week" category winner will be chosen among all watches shared along the to event.
Participants may begin posting in this same thread right now!
I look forward to enjoy another very interesting and fun edition this weekend!
Best cordial regards
Abel
PS: will return later with some shots illustrating my choices.
