To an extent it depends on the destination; and if you are to meet others from the Forum.
For instance, should you be traveling to Zagreb, by law you have to carry with you six watches. (I'm not making that up-you can go to the City Offices and see it written for yourself; or ask Damjan.) What I do is pack the watches in a watch roll and keep the roll in my camera bag at all times; which bag never leaves my possession throughout any trip.

Yes, travelling with expensive watches can be unsafe. Doesn't matter whether it is 5-star hotel. Employees have sharp eyes, even when you wear a long sleeve shirt and a jacket.. For myself, I usually travel with a steel watch (Rolex, Tudor, Longines, VC)....
