Its something i struggle with...

Nov 23, 2021,14:58 PM

A few watches I have increased in value, particularly over the course of the last 12 months or so as independent brands started heating up. I still collect new watches, but I find myself not wearing many of them as often as i otherwise would because of this. When I do, I find myself consciously careful. My most worn watch as of late is the DB28 'Dark Shadows', working from home for the time being it totally complements the casual style , and given its full zirconium case I am rather carefree and don't worry about scratches!

There are other reasons as well as to why I don't wear particular pieces often..

I may have fallen out of love with some, or my tastes may have changed over the years. I still hold on to these watches because they were special to me at a certain point in time. Maybe I am waiting to see if the love comes back.

Or some pieces are so dear to me that I save them for special occasions (such as my 5370P and the one patek rare handcraft piece i have).

And lastly, there are pieces that I am just afraid to ding and nick because I truly love them and I get a mental block about wearing them frequently. I have a couple of major dings on my 5170P and 5131P... what a painful experience smile)))

One thing that is truly sad is that I am reluctant to wear watches of high value (financially and sentimentally) while I travel given how watch crime/theft is becoming more common. Considering that I usually am a frequent traveler, its a major factor on why many pieces on't get wrist time.

Ever sold or stopped wearing a watch because the value has risen too much ?

for some it might be 5K, others 50K and a few 500K Doesn't matter this is personal ... but were you ever in this situation ? This somehow destroys the joy ... Let's take an example ( not that I have this watch but just to make things more clear. ) In 2006...

If a particular watch of mine reaches a factor of 10x, then i would consider selling. Because this is just insane.

 By: @lberti : November 23rd, 2021-13:42
In the meanwhile i would carefully wear them. Happy to say that none of my watches are not even near 10x retail and thats definitely ok with me😊
