Back in ‘13 I figured something classic and iconic should enter the collection. A Genta watch.
Dilemma 1.
So to me there were only two choices. A Nautilus or a Royal Oak. And after some debating I preferred the more fluid shape of the Nautilus. The octagonal shape was a bit too hard, if you get my drift.
Dilemma 2.
Which one? Back then the 5711 seemed perhaps a bit boring. When going for a luxury sports watch it needed to have a sports complication. So the 3712 also wasn’t an option 🤦🏻♂️. Moon phases aren’t sporty. So 5980 it would be.
Dilemma 3.
Dial color. Should it be the classic blue/grayish dial. The outcome on the PuristSPro website told me: definitely blue dial. But I’m a stubborn man. And despite my secret preference for the blue dial I opted for the white (actually silver) dial. Why? Because that dial made the chronograph über sporty style wise.
Haven’t looked back since.
What I didn’t know back then, is that production would only run for 2 years. What I did know was that the white dial would be more rare then the blue dial. But I thought it would only be a disadvantage if I would ever sell it again. Other than that it didn’t play any role in the decision process as the watch was bought to be used.
6 years later: try and find one! Man it is even harder to locate then the 3712. It turned out to be a true Moby Dick! Still undervalued btw, but I’m sure when it finally sinks in how special this watch is....
