Basel 2017

Patek released the 5131P and all i could do was think about that watch. I spent teh next two weeks discussing that watch with my AD and with Patek and was told I could expect to receive one. Naturally, I was over the moon. But then......two weeks after Basel, I started to pay attention to the other watches released.
And that is when I saw the 5650G.
Bang....like a punch in the face. I realised I had made a huge mistake. The mistake was not in ordering the 5131P, but the mistake was in NOT ordering the 5650G.
To make matters worse, the 5650G was a limited edition of just 500 watches. And my AD told me that Patek did not have any available as all 500 had been allocated.
What an idiot I was. I felt this 5650G was something really special. I felt that I had to have it. So, I called my AD and explained that I REALLY needed it. He called Patek and explained that I REALLY needed it. And then ...... nothing. A few weeks went past. So i called my AD again and explained more fully just how REALLY i needed it. He called Patek and explained my analysis....namely that "REALLY" is actually a spectrum and that I was at the extreme of "REALLY".
Then I got a call from my AD. A 5650G had become available in the UK as someone had decided not to take their allocation and that it was mine if I wanted it. A stroke of pure luck. A lucky punch. Who knows what happened to the guy who had the order and who decided to change their mind. Maybe he got made an offer he couldn't refuse? Who knows. But I struck lucky. And for me, the 5650G has been on my wrist more than any other watch since 2017.
An absolutely unique movement. Something absolutely new and different from Patek Philippe.
Pure joy.
