My Kairos moment is really a Rescue story

I've always enjoyed searching for "lost treasure", when I was a boy my favorite toy was my metal detector, and so I love to troll pawn shops online because every once-in-a-blue-moon you uncover something interesting. This is a story about a Roger Dubuis Excalibur I found several years ago. To say it was beat-to-hell would be an understatement. The watch looked like it had done three tours of duty and had all the scars to show for it. It was missing a pusher and the case was scratched up and the strap was disintegrating. It had clearly been mistreated and I knew I had to "rescue" it - I felt like a Veterinarian helping a starving puppy, it was just heart-breaking. So I bought it and took it in to my good friends at the NYC Roger Dubuis Boutique. Once they got over their initial shock, off it went for a full service and repair. It came back looking brand new! I enclose an "after" photo below, I don't have a "before" photo, I think I was too shocked to take one. Even after the expensive repairs the current market value is over twice what I have in it, so it represents one of my best buys as well. But that's not the point on this one, this just leaves me scratching my head as to what type of person abuses such a beautiful watch??
