Dear Purist, As a non-Patek owner, I always converse with Patek collectors and ask if you can only have 1 Patek what would it be? Of course it’s highly subjective and depends on lifestyle but please do feel free to share what would you would choose as you...
Saw it for the first time in the (semi) wild on a watch dealer's wrist and this reference is impressive yet simple. Very impactful. That being said - I own a Patek Nautilus 5712/1A-001 and despite the hype/overpriced nature of the Nautilus - I find it to ...
PP was my holy-grail of brands to own, which I looked up to in awe. At one time I owned 4, including the YG worldtimer. I started to feel like the grass is greener on the other side of the PP world, so I sold the 5130J-001 it for the "higher-end" 5130R-00...
Prices tend do reflect that in some models, but it's not ony for the 5130. Whether YG or RG or WG or Platinum, the metal one chooses depends on each individual's own taste, really.
I would take the liberty to put 1 model per 'range' of complication... Sure there'll be Patek collectors who would add more insights than this but if I've to choose 'one Patek' - it is going to be one among these... Calatrava : 5196P - albeit small moveme...
It may be a simple two handed watch limited to 80 pieces in rose gold (although it pretends to be yellow gold in pictures!) but the fact is that this watch blends with my wrist better than any other and it was my watch of choice when I visited the Patek f...
For me, it is the 5110P, the world time. BUT, the 5960A, the 5970P, the 5970 and the 5100G are my absolute favorites, if we exclude Minute Repeaters which belong to another planet.
I think it’s a big design flaw. I also find the the day/month windows a little disproportionate to the case size. On the 3970 it’s perfect but for the 5970 it should be bigger. Patek realized this and corrected it on the 5270.
The epitome of perpetual calendars: 3940. The perfect worldtimer: 5110p. The ultimate three hands watch (with date): 5227 (yes this last may be a little more controversial)
Perfectly sized, thin, signature Patek complication, gorgeous and balanced - I think it may be one of the most unanimously loved modern Pateks. The only knock, in terms of collectability, is that it was made for a long time. But a first series 3940 in gre...
Rather than pick something i would never own, I will go with one i do that reminds me of a very special time in my life. I would sell a lung before i sold that one.
Hard to choose one.. 3940 1st series or 3940p, 2526, 3428.. Dream one and done pieces. I would choose comfort and ability to just blend into the wrist over a thicker Perpetual calendar chrono or manual wind chronograph. More of a daily wear. The 5110 seri...
