It is exactly that. Patek Philippe, to preserve their refined, classic image and good taste, always stayed a footstep back, a little more conservative. Thus they evolve but while keeping their relative position comapred to its competitors.
Many Patek owners, collectors etc want the brand to remain this way. Others wish they go even slower and keep on providing watches with the spirit from the 40's, 50's, 60's and others wish to see the brand totally step into today's trend.
Indeed, it is tough for T. Stern to satisfy all these tastes without damaging the brand's image.
In the end, it is a balance between securing the future (giving what people want) and living with its time but protecting the brand's DNA that makes the strengh of Patek (not going to far in size, shapes, materials etc...).
Thanks for your input WS, it is often difficult to make people understand these issues as it deals with passion.
