......having said that, just about every single manufacturer that produces in this type of volume will have a similar problem. Where one can differentiate is by how often it happens and by what the manufacturer does to redeem the situation. Cost is another differentiator. Time to undertake a service, too.

On cost, i actually don't think Patek Philippe is relatively high. I have just had a Lange Datograph go for service and the bill will be in excess of $2000. A standard service on a very simple Rolex is no longer so basic. On a Daytona, one would not get change out of $1000. I had a JLC perpetual calendar serviced and that cost around $1500. So, i am not sure cost is as big a differentiator as one might imagine.

Service time is also difficult to judge. I know that Patek will take a watch completely apart at service and essentially re-make it. Each part gets attention. It is a very very thorough job. I had a Calatrava in for service. It came back and a freak accident occured where the jewel came loose. It could not have been predicted. The entire watch needed to be re-serviced as the service process is meticulous. Patek did not charbge me at all for the service. But it still took several months. I prefer a slow and meticulus professional service than a quick and dubious job.

Does the problem you have experienced happen frequently? If it does, then it is absolutely right that the manufacturer should hold their hands up and do soemthing about it. The extent to which the manufacturer goes to making you, the customer, feel satisfied should ultimately be the crux of the issue. On this front, I would definitely expect Patek to stand up to the job.

One other observation is that different regions differ in their service quality. There is a degree of "luck of the draw" inherent in the process.

You love the watch. You love wearing the watch. Ultimately, though, the experience of wearing the watch also includes customer service. I hope sincerely that the manufacturer can remedy this problem for you in a way that makes you happy.
