Great choice! I’m all for a two or three watches collections. Although I haven’t started building my PP collection, I would think 5960A will be in it (better the black but white will do too) and the 5270 salmon dial is growing on me too!

But maybe I will add a nautilus (5711R or 5712A) if possible.

I did it! Now it’s a two-piece PP collection...

 By: fuigo : August 12th, 2019-08:53
I did it. I toyed with the idea for months... I took advantage of the recent market and consolidated big time. I gave up a 5170G-001, 3940J-018 and 5980-001. Now I have two PP’s left. The 5270P-001 and the 5960/1A-010. Will I miss the Nautilus and the cla...

Thank you!

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:00
The black dialed 5960A is definitely a darling in my collection.

Congratulations!

By: Pour le Mérite : August 12th, 2019-09:13
Two very good choices. Doubt you’ll miss the Nautilus after awhile.

Hee hee...

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:01
We all move on from things that we initially think we aren’t able to...

Oh!

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:02
There were many sleepless nights for sure before I came to this decision. Even during the execution of the deals, I was questioning myself too...

Thank you! I am still stuck on the Rolexes.

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:03
It was very interesting to hear two watchmakers tell me the same thing about the brand. Great brand. Great product. But you only need one and it doesn’t matter which one. Just pick one you like. That’s what they said to me.

No....

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:04
It was tricky, because the buyer and seller are different. Took some careful planning to make sure the transactions happened when they should have happened.

Consolidation is the way to go!

 By: sham1 : August 12th, 2019-09:59
It takes a lot of courage but the end result is always satisfying!!

Cycles...

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:04
I feel like it’s a cycle. We all go through a consolidation phase and then an expansion phase. Then we start over again. Hahahaha.

You did it absolutely right - in every aspect!

 By: jkvs : August 12th, 2019-10:07
It is much more better to have two or three outstanding pieces than a lot of second-best watches. Congratulations for being so consequent!

Thank you.

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:05
That’s partly my logic too. I just have to keep reminding myself that when I have second thoughts.

You did very well imo . Two amazing PPs

 By: Watchonthewrists : August 12th, 2019-10:48
Especially that Salmon dial 👌🏻 its so beautiful . Maybe i need to consolidate as well at some point . Not there yet 😬

There’s no right or wrong time.

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:05
Our collections should reflect only our passion and that passion may take different forms.

To sell or not to sell the Nautilus, that is the question,

 By: drphileasfogg : August 12th, 2019-11:58
You did well, congrats

Excellent choice!

 By: baufoam : August 12th, 2019-12:16
I got to see the salmon-dial Patek Chronograph at an AD in Beverly I could only have one Patek, that may well be it! You have excellent taste. Thank you for sharing!

It’s a beautiful piece.

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:07
And pictures don’t do it justice. Thank you and you too!

It definitely wasn’t a easy decision!

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:07
It’s a mind vs heart discussion. In the end, I think both my mind and heart wanted to do this. The 5270P does the same, if not more, to my emotions as the Nautilus.

Great piece

 By: mark1958a : August 12th, 2019-12:29
I got to see one of these in person a few weeks back.. Clearly on my list of wants. Have considered some trade ins towards the purchase as well but have yet to be able to part with some of those pieces.. So will either save a bit more.. and lust ... or do...

5960 is so awesome.

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:08
So unloved, at the same time... I love the way it looks. I love the way it wears. That’s why it’s the only other PP I keep along with 5270P.

Well done

 By: Jurry : August 12th, 2019-14:25
Looks like you’ve done a great deal On the perpetual calendar chronograph I was wondering what that aperture left of the moon face is for?

Thanks!

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:09
On the left aperture, it’s a day/night indicator. It notifies us of the danger zone, ie. when to or not to adjust the calendar.

You made a great decision, huge congrats!

 By: 1WatchMan : August 12th, 2019-15:14
I would wear the 5960 on the bracelet though 😉 Enjoy your couple in the best health!

Don’t get me wrong...

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:12
I love the 5960 bracelet. In fact, I actually think it’s the most comfortable bracelet in the industry... For me, it’s better than the Rolex Oyster, Jubilee... Better than the PP Nautilus. Unfortunately, I swapped it out, because I couldn’t get the perfec...

I know that feeling very well, as I'm a bit too picky with the fit of metal bracelets

 By: 1WatchMan : August 14th, 2019-01:29
I have the 1.5 link for my Nautilus, but I still have some issues. My wrist changes a lot depending on temperature and humidity, which causes me problems with bracelets. I used to "play" quite often with the links and 1.5 links myself, but it caused big i...

Congrats and well done...

 By: NautNut : August 12th, 2019-16:16
… I have been pondering the same strategy myself now for awhile.

It definitely took me a long time...

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:12
To decide and to execute. I am lucky that the market was on my side when I decided and when I executed.

Many congrats on an excellent choice!

 By: @WatchesandWristshots : August 12th, 2019-18:28
Absolutely love them both! Best, H

:-). Thanks! [nt]

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:12

It was a dream come true.

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:13
Owning a Grand Comp at that level was only a dream for many years. I joked about trading in my 5980 for it a few months back. I still can’t believe I’ve actually done it. Hahaha

Two superb watches.

 By: jlux : August 13th, 2019-00:54
I believe you made the right choice !

:-)

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:14
I sure hope so after giving up so many pieces that I love dearly.

Great move... as we age...its no longer the quantity that counts

 By: PeeCeeBee : August 13th, 2019-02:24
Congratulations to your new acquisition.... it is always a sweet process (hunting of new pieces) after consolidation.

Yes!

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:14
I also feel that as time goes on, we “mature” as collectors and develop different strategies or themes in our collections. At the end of the day, it’s a hobby and it should make one happy and not stressful!

I guess your commitment (to consolidate) has been well rewarded.

 By: Jay (Eire) : August 13th, 2019-04:19
There are many here envious I’m sure of your being able to make this move, to sell, consolidate. I’ve taken baby steps myself, but keep getting distracted along the way. Plus, it’s a slow process.

Slow process it is...

 By: fuigo : August 13th, 2019-06:15
Took me months to decide and finally pulled the trigger! Good luck to you too!

Grail pickup!

 By: Ravenart : August 22nd, 2019-16:07
I would be extremely hesitant to get rid of my 5980, but this was a worthy sacrifice. I absolutely love the Salmon dial.

Wow! I didn’t know it’s come with such big prize! Hahaha

 By: fuigo : August 23rd, 2019-17:39
If so, I would have gotten it earlier. Hahaha

The 5270P is my holy grail watch

 By: fallanden_ch : June 18th, 2020-17:29
I love the 5270P, I'm so excited to get mine. I'll wear it daily and with great pleasure.

It is an awesome and often overlooked piece.

 By: fuigo : June 19th, 2020-07:12
Wear yours in good health!

Bravo and a perfect combination!! In many ways the pinnacle watch in Patek’s history is the perpetual calendar chronograph. And you have it

 By: patekova : June 18th, 2020-17:52
Platinum! And you have the supremely complicated, attractive and practical steel 5960, with rare black dial - only made for one year. Now how about Daytona, Sub or GMT to make a perfect 3 watch collection? Best, Patekova

Thanks for the suggestions...

 By: fuigo : June 19th, 2020-07:11
I’m not lucky enough for the Daytona... Hahahaha. Curious, among the Sky Dweller, Sub (no date), and Batman (v1 and v2), which would be the one you include in this hypothetical 3-watch collection?

RO 15400 as a beater!

 By: fuigo : June 19th, 2020-23:11
What an interesting idea!

You seem to like complications, so I think you might get bored with the no date Sub. Sky Dweller is Rolex’ most complicated watch and is an excellent

 By: patekova : June 19th, 2020-08:06
watch. If you like the size that might be the one. If not, Batman is excellent. Version 2 has a 70 hour power reserve, but you have to like the Jubilee bracelet. I prefer version -1 on the Oyster. Also I like that it is discontinued and is the only steel ...

Thanks for the analysis.

 By: fuigo : June 19th, 2020-23:18
I always thought the Sky Dweller would be a perfect one watch collection, though the size may be limiting. It’s the most complicated Rolex with very useful set of functions. It’s also robust and versatile enough for most conditions and scenarios. I too al...

Well done a brave step.

 By: Miles_151 : June 19th, 2020-07:18
But one I’m sure you won’t regret. Enjoy the two you have sacrificed for a Patek PCC and a 5960 is not much of a sacrifice in my book. Enjoy that wonderful Pair and I’m sure the Salmon dial will mesmerise you for hours like mine does me. Wear and stare in...

Haven’t looked back since. You’re absolutely right!

 By: fuigo : June 19th, 2020-23:12
I just wished the 5960 is a bit more water resistant, so I could do without another watch for the pool.

You already have one

 By: Miles_151 : June 20th, 2020-05:58
What’s wrong with you man? 😉 M. ...

Wow wow wow!

 By: fuigo : June 20th, 2020-06:19
YOU DA MAN! Do you get it checked regularly?

Huge congratulations ! both 5270P and 5960 are great ones !

 By: mahesh : June 20th, 2020-00:36
personally i like the 5270 for its dial - bravo !! consolidation is painful but the results are always good, well done ! Best, mahesh.,

Painful it may be...

 By: fuigo : June 20th, 2020-06:20
But it’s all part of the fun. Hahahaha!

Lovely 2 piece collection

 By: KC_HK : June 20th, 2020-07:52
IMHO, I think you made the perfect choice! This is definitely the 2 I would have over the original 4 pieces. Congrats!!!

I’ve done a similar thing

 By: hub6152 : June 21st, 2020-19:25
and consolidated down to 2 pieces, and one of them is also a 5960 (but the original P-001) and the other is my old faithful Rolex Exp II 16570 with Polar dial. So at least I followed some of the advice!

Oooo. I meant the PP section of my humble, tiny collection.

 By: fuigo : June 28th, 2020-07:24
Hee hee. I’ve always thought about becoming an one-watch man... Or perhaps two-watch. Maybe one day I will. When I can resist all the temptations of the world.

Well done takes a brave man.

 By: Miles_151 : June 22nd, 2020-01:36
The 5960 p-001 with the Geneva seal is the one to own in my book. Enjoy. M.

5960P is a great piece indeed.

 By: fuigo : June 28th, 2020-07:22
Unfortunately, I no longer possess any PP with the Geneva seal. Perhaps one day...

Excellent choice! Huge congrats!

 By: Mike H : June 28th, 2020-15:59
My two favourite mottos: - "choosing is renouncing" (attributed to André Gide) - Less is more Obviously we share the same philisophy

Haha! We do! [nt]

 By: fuigo : June 29th, 2020-03:43

I owned a Aquanaut a long time ago...

 By: fuigo : June 29th, 2020-23:16
I parted with it after it stopped running for me twice. I sent the watch back to the spa... After the second time, I sold it. It was a nice watch, but it didn’t scream quality like the 5960 IMHO. Do I miss it? A bit, because I’d love to have a water resis...

Admiration

 By: heljestrand : July 4th, 2020-01:24
You are playing the game on a whole different level but I admire your luxury minimalist approach!

Thank you. Only time will tell if I made the right decision.

 By: fuigo : July 6th, 2020-06:22
I don’t mean resale value of these watches, but what I feel about these watches. So far, I still love them a great deal.
