Arnault is definitely not the same...
You're absolutely right, jewelers are in a special position, they know the kids age, graduation, and big celebrations within the family. So it's only natural for a jeweler to maintain that relationship with a family through generations.
Arnault's empires are all much too large and are less high touch than these Patek Philippe - so no, I wouldn't try to find too many parallels there. Arnault's empire is also much larger, more mass market, more multidisciplines (fashion, to accessories, to wine and spirits, and more) and about 50X larger than Patek Philippe in revenue.
There are A LOT MORE STORES in USA that are family run than just Govberg. Lots more. Perhaps Govberg is just good at the marketing side of the whole thing which is why you thought of Govberg first. Govberg does try to do a good job. I unfortunately had a lacking experience during my last visit - I came to my appointment five minutes early, but the team was running behind schedule and was unable to receive me for quite some time - so long that I had to be departing by the time they were able to receive me. I won't say anymore as I can be identified and I don't want to criticize the store. But going back to family owned ADs, Govberg is hardly unique in this sense.
