By: FabR : April 6th, 2022-07:03
Dear Friends, it's with great pleasure that today we can announce the latest, remarkable Grand Complication created by Patek Philippe --- Ref. 5470P in Platinum, as part of the regular catalog! You can soon find all the information on this new marvel also...
Looking at the watch …
By: Cpt Scarlet : April 6th, 2022-07:42
It’s understandable. A strong addition to the lineup.
Great review, many thanks,
By: russell996 : April 6th, 2022-08:31
Not really a successor to the 5370 since it’s not a Rattrapante, more another complication option.
amazing!

My favorite pants...
By: patrick_y : April 6th, 2022-07:53
Wool flannel pants! If you haven't discovered them yet, they're lovely. But you've probably been aware of them much longer than I have been! Mine are in a five pocket layout and I sleep in them on the airplane!
Love Isaia as well!
By: m2 : April 6th, 2022-14:53
I actually own the same shirt you posted @fabr. The one on the left. Their sport coats in particular I love!
Wow! That does make sense logically!
By: patrick_y : April 6th, 2022-16:55
Now I'm the type after a dinner drink, I take a nap in the middle of after-dinner-movie time. And I wake up in the middle and ask anybody around me, "what happened while I was asleep." It's gotten my friends so annoyed that now they tell me to drink only ...
;-))))
By: FabR : April 6th, 2022-16:59
Good heavens.
By: patrick_y : April 6th, 2022-15:04
What's that using? 8 micron wool? 170s? Oh my goodness!
S/170'S IS 15 MICRONS
By: vicunaman1 : April 6th, 2022-15:42
I BELIEVE THAT THE LORO PIANA 170'S IS 15 TO 15.5 MICRONS
Nice to my skin, but not nice to my wallet...
By: patrick_y : April 6th, 2022-15:58
Gotta balance things out sometimes! But I have to stop buying pants really. I've got eight or so Kiton pants, some of which I haven't worn in two years! Another two Pescarolo pants that I've never worn ever. And probably a few more underutilized pants!
Pretty good deals since covid...
By: m2 : April 6th, 2022-16:29
I got too fat during covid, but I noticed a lot of very good deals on Kiton, Isaia, Attolini, etc... ever since COVID kicked off.
I can't gain too much weight!
By: patrick_y : April 6th, 2022-16:33
Yes! Lots of good clothing deals! If I gain too much weight, I won't ever fit into those pants that I've never even worn once! The trainer beat me into submission today. But core exercises doesn't really reduce weight... Gotta exercise more and eat less! ...

Next time you go to the store...
By: patrick_y : April 6th, 2022-14:16
The next time you go to the store, pay attention to the buttonholes. You'll see they're individually made and hand stitched. Each buttonhole takes around 4-5 minutes for a professional to complete! The ISAIA shirts really are quite special!
Whoa, who makes the shoes? Bontoni?
By: patrick_y : April 6th, 2022-16:51
I've always been a John Lobb guy myself. But I have to admit, the Italians have a bit more flamboyance!

a dream piece

... perfection... but not for my thin wallet unfortunately... but this is one of the best things I have seen from PP in a long time! Well done!
Ahh!
By: patrick_y : April 6th, 2022-17:10
My fanciest credit card was made out of solid metal. It weighed 28 grams! Made a big clang if you dropped it on the floor. Unfortunately, the card recently expired and they mailed me a plastic replacement! That's not very fun!

I’m struggling.
By: Miles_151 : April 6th, 2022-09:43
Technically brilliant no doubt about that. Aesthetically I’m still processing its sporty feel with the red trim. As many of you know the lume will also always remain a problem for me on such a complication. Is this the future of Patek complications???? Th...
Absolutely agree my friend.
By: Miles_151 : April 6th, 2022-13:06
You are correct that this is the path that Patek has chosen. I am almost an old fossil even at my age of 50 compared to the new money, younger collector which lets be honest is where the future is. Myself and other collectors who yearn for the good old da...
Look at the Price 😂😂😂
By: JohnJohn : April 6th, 2022-10:32
The Patek Philippe REf. 5470P has a retail price of CHF 380,000.
It is stunning
By: RGS : April 6th, 2022-12:41
And yes, PP have started the sportification in aesthetics, of the calatrava, complications and now grand complications line of watches. I like it. As for the price, well in a world where people pay 200K for a Naitilus or Aquanaut, why not? Cheers!
Wow - very impressive (and different for PP)
By: MPP : April 6th, 2022-11:56
Definitely a more modern look than the classical PP chrono. Part of me does wonder how many people actually need to measure to the 1/10 of a second, particularly given the imprecision necessarily built into manually engaging the chrono function, but I sup...
I really like the case design of this one
By: takman : April 6th, 2022-12:11
The navy blue and red also look quite appalling to me. Almost red, white, and blue for our American friends. I’m not quite convinced by the 1/10th second complication but I haven’t read all the technical material. Overall a very handsome watch!
Technically very cool
By: TeutonicCarFan : April 6th, 2022-12:21
But I don't like the wiring on the dial or that strap. I'm sure that's irrelevant since I'd likely need to sell my house to buy 😁
😂
By: TeutonicCarFan : April 6th, 2022-20:56
The wife and kids agree too 😁
that looks great! well done, Patek
By: ChristianDK : April 6th, 2022-12:24
cant afford one but now I have an idea for a strap for my 5960A black dial Thank you for bringing us the news, my friend.
In terms of Design, I really have impression that
By: hazzgard : April 6th, 2022-13:00
Patek is caring a lot about the “new generation” of collectors with modern looks, colors and dial textures. I don’t know what will be the outcome of this, but IMO they are doing a good strategy as they still keep the “classic” Patek. Do you also have an i...
Thanks for the wright up Fab
By: Costa (aka Connie) : April 6th, 2022-13:57
Beautiful time piece. Too bad it’s so expensive. These watches are becoming so expensive only kings and queens can afford them. Still fun to read about and look at. Hope you have a good day

No need for PhD, just count the black lines
By: Steyr : April 6th, 2022-21:42
...9 lines in between two same-colored lines, you multiply with the oscillation duration and you get the measured value. If all measured values equal 1.8s (9 black lines=9 osc.x 0.2s) while events durations are from 1.62 to 1.98, this means that this watc...
Thank you for your extensive elaboration, Steyr.

That’s the first time for me to encounter the Nyquist-Shannon Theorem. Fortunately I didn’t have to know this in my GCSE additional math examination and med school MBBS exam After reading your illustration and doing some online homework, I think what you ...
SPECTACULAR !!!!
By: vicunaman1 : April 6th, 2022-14:56
I'LL NEED A NIGHT JOB FOR THIS ONE...!!!! GREAT WITH JEANS
Stunning!!!
By: KCLQMULKU : April 6th, 2022-17:38
I love the sporty look of the use of red across the dial, hand, and inscription. The subtle grain of the face, the curves of the lugs leaving the case, the design pattern of the strap, and that movement!!!
I think they go the Lange way here.
By: COUNT DE MONET : April 7th, 2022-18:55
A 1/10th of a second watch from Patek is ... not realy Pateklike. And to place that property on the dial is cheap, sorry. Also, all the effort to fix an (unneeded) task/problem with such amount of engineering is the Lange way, something Lange is known for...
what if the property is not red? or Black and Red instead of Blue and Red?
By: Gelato Monster : April 7th, 2022-22:39
IMHO PP is responding to the challenge from the (AP, VC, ALS) as well attack of The independents. At the same time PP also tries to be avant garde in its design language (colors etc) including showoff styling/street style detail (Late Virgil Abloh etc) Pe...
Some more thoughts ...
By: COUNT DE MONET : April 10th, 2022-10:37
Patek is possibly creating more variants of its base movement (a considerable part ist still the chrono movement) in order to exploit it furher. Nothing wrong with that, but a 1/10th chrono is associated with a sporty brand, that Patek is not. Maybe it is...
Sounds about correct
By: skyeriding : April 12th, 2022-01:23
The red 12s chronograph hand (1/10th second) simply spins five times faster than the regular chronograph 60s hand. They are effectively tied together in all start/stop/reset functionality - one can be forgiven to think at first glance "why not just gear t...
Sorry, but why has the red hand got less value after 12 sec?
By: COUNT DE MONET : April 12th, 2022-09:16
It has constantly the value to show 1/10th during all operation time, also after 12 sec. Are you refering to the point that within 12 sec you can read the full and the 1/10th sec with the red hand only? Than the regular rhodinated, central second hand wou...
I would read this like Patek intended to do.
By: COUNT DE MONET : April 12th, 2022-11:53
Still, it has got the "comfort" of all information in the center. Speaking of the Zenith: as Zenith's five graduations of each second on the dial of their standard chronos is correct with the beat ratio, it makes any additional effort to display 1/10th re...
the magical charm of PP is undeniable
By: Gelato Monster : April 12th, 2022-22:56
IMHO the price is marketable simply because it is the only watch with such unique complication in the market. Is the money reasonable? Hmmm. Could it be better spent on other watch ? Quite likely. On the other this fun hobby is sometimes mindless all pass...
👍👍
By: Gelato Monster : April 12th, 2022-21:44
On "spectacular" we can agree!😀
By: COUNT DE MONET : April 10th, 2022-13:13
Having thought a bit more about this one, I must say the central display of second and 1/10th is fascinating.
Thanks for announcing this piece which to me has a refreshing
By: GLau : April 6th, 2022-20:23
sporty look 👀 ! The red needle and red markers accentuate the vanished blue dial well. The “fabric” pattern of the strap reminds me of the 6007 LE, and gives the watch a “younger” feel ! Technically the 1/10 second measurement is an interesting developmen...
Ooff that’s a stunner. I’m nitpicking for perfection here
By: emcquillan : April 7th, 2022-04:31
But would have preferred the 1/10th second not on the dial. If you know you know. The strap not sure would have to see it. I know traditional Patek watches are moving to sporty looking watches that were traditionally more elegant to attract younger client...
BRAVO FAB !!!
By: vicunaman1 : April 8th, 2022-00:24
As much as quality finishing, and technological inovation are of premier importance to the brand, it must be considered that a large segment of the present (ruling) generation has a more progressive, less formal fashion sense…Design and style is totally s...
By: PaddyP : April 7th, 2022-10:53
An amazing technical achievement and a stunning piece.. I may be alone in wishing it was black dial like first 5370p but other than that it’s just about perfect for me.
Wrist Balance? What's The Weight Of The Head?
By: enjoythemusic : April 7th, 2022-12:52
Was chatting with a friend, and he brought up wrist balance. While i'm surprised that for the price both bracelet and strap were not included, with only a strap on offer, wrist balance could be a concern for such a large/thick timepiece. Does anyone know ...
