...I also think it will sell like hot cakes! The glamour will, however, not last as much as the 372. This because a DLC is a bit more "boring" than a s/s one, after a while. I don't see people, queueing around the block, for this one (like it happened for the super-classic 372) after the initial "hot cakes" fase. IMO of course

At the " reissue game", Panerai is very good. We can even say that when they revisit their past, they often do it in a very good way. There are a lot of references which are revisiting the past. The 372, the 587, the 662, the 127, the 21, the Mare Nostrum...

...at the reissue game, but how hard can it be for them? Some feel all their watches look the same 🤣 On serious note, this one is quite attractive, only unsure how will owners of the originals feel with such reissues.

That really is a stunning looking old school Panerai.
It really does have a very strong vintage vibe and look to it which I think is a good thing and thank you for your post that goes into all the small details about this watch. IMO the choice of DLC over PVD makes sense as the DLC is a newer and better tech...

It's not always about the competition
In this case, the 5218 is practically a base Luminor with a DLC coated case and a slightly fancier dial. Base Luminor with P6000 is $5900 5218 with P6000 is $8800 Is the 5218 worth an increase of $2900 over the base? I have a hard time answering yes.
