Trust the specialists and your network
In my case it is Panerai, I really wasn't into it before reading people's opinion and passion for them. Otherwise in general, I tend to think that we trust specialists in our network for information on cars, movies, restaurants, watches, etc. I feel PPro has a huge trust value since the opinions are for non pro specialists who amateurs like us see from the same consumer angle in general.

For me, it's been primarily watch forums
...then research afterwards. Multiple sources of information are critical for objectivity. I rarely use manufacturer sources (including any press releases) except to get specs and possibly better pictures.

Nothing beats the expertise of a trusted watch friend. Some of us are generalists (like me), other heavily specialize. Always good to surround yourself with people who know more than you do. I am always learning new things.
