I told her I was thinking about buying another watch. I guess she did not realise how serious I was. Your advice about mutual involvement is good. She makes jewelry as a hobby. This is in the ballpark as far as similarity of interest goes. Admittedly, I have spent a lot in the last few months. I think I need to just slow down and look at the long term picture. I think she thinks I am going to spend our life savings. I just need to show that this is not the case, and I think the interest in watches will become an expected, normal part of my/our life. For me, it's been primarily watch forums

Nothing beats the expertise of a trusted watch friend. Some of us are generalists (like me), other heavily specialize. Always good to surround yourself with people who know more than you do. I am always learning new things.
