I think your individual case study can be replicated across this forum with statistical significance. Like the others before, the Purists have indeed influenced my purchases (and in some cases my change of mind when I thought of selling some pieces that dont get wrist time). It is nearly impossible for any sales person to convey the same amount of information here even with multiple visits, unless he happens to be a WIS as well. At any rate, it would be hard to expect that salesman to give completely unbiased information, including recommending alternatives. More information=more knowledge=more certainty in making purchases=higher price acquisitions that you would not typically do on the spur of the moment. With the Purists, there are many "Inception" pieces that have already been planted by any, not just the mods like Vlad, in the back of our minds.

For me, it's been primarily watch forums

Nothing beats the expertise of a trusted watch friend. Some of us are generalists (like me), other heavily specialize. Always good to surround yourself with people who know more than you do. I am always learning new things.
