Well said, I can almost feel what u feel when I was reading your post.
I too enjoyed the time spent with my family over the holidays.
My daughter(6yo) asked me what I wanted for Xmas. As I didn’t have anything I really wanted, I said spend time with family n make sure everyone is happy. She replied “daddy I meant Xmas presents”. So I just rambled things like a new car, a new watch.. her reply “but u already have those stuff”
To sum it up, I have everything I need, I just wanna enjoy the rest of my life.
Back to the Watch part...when I travel I mostly wear my G shock
Merry Xmas n a Happi New Year

A very adult question for grown-ups about traveling
By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : December 26th, 2018-07:02
How do you travel with your watches? When I travel on vacation, as I am now, I either wear a g-shock, or a sport watch that I can wear the whole time, in the water, everywhere. How do purists travel with multiple watches or with a dress watch? Because som...
I usually take 2-3 watches

My Breitling Aerospace and my Citizen Eco-Drive, or my Seiko perpetual GMT because I don’t want to lose or damage valuable ones. I keep the spares in my extra pair of shoes. Cazalea ...
I never travel with a very valuable watch...
By: Marcus Hanke : December 26th, 2018-07:22
... But, sometimes, I take two watches with me. Normally, when I am in a rented flat or house, where I have a better control on security. Otherwise, a one-for-all timepiece must do. Marcus

Yes, travelling with expensive watches can be unsafe. Doesn't matter whether it is 5-star hotel. Employees have sharp eyes, even when you wear a long sleeve shirt and a jacket.. For myself, I usually travel with a steel watch (Rolex, Tudor, Longines, VC)....

Depends where i am going. If i can take a bracelet watch so i can wear all the time, Im not too concerned. I can wear my Grand Seiko since most people will just see the name Seiko and won’t know its a good watch. If I’m going somewhere where i would not f...

But first and foremost I get everything insured for piece of mind. Then I typically don't bring "limited" watches and watches that are somewhat replaceable. Then the rest I typically will bring one dress watch, one water watch, and one scuba watch! Good l...
Just one cheap sports watch
By: Poky : December 26th, 2018-07:59
If something was to happen to it, I could easily forget about it without ruining my holiday and wasting time to report to the local police. I don't want to make myself an easy target for the criminals.
I try to travel with stealthier watches...
By: KMII : December 26th, 2018-08:03
Grand Seiko is a great travel piece, for instance 😊 So if no one sees anything of interest, the likelihood of opening hotel safes is less - and you are right, those are super easy to open. If you travel with more watches a slim case you can carry with (in...
I used to travel with ‘everything’.
By: dr.kol : December 26th, 2018-08:08
Nowadays I wear a watch which shows time and can easily go to the pool. This means Rolex or Tudor. In case I have an important dinner or something similar, I might take something nicer with me type platinum Patek. It was too close that my life ended last ...

I am still young. Naturally everything ia relative. The ages of my wife, youngest daughter and myself is totally less than 98 years. That makes less than 33 years in average. Best Kari
Economics but I love statistics.
By: dr.kol : December 27th, 2018-07:36
It’s good to have a 31 years old wife and 4 years old daughter. I’m trying hard to make my wife pregnant again. That would drop my ‘family-age’ to 25... Best Kari
The same there.
By: dr.kol : December 28th, 2018-09:26
But you have to take the ice cubes from the deep freeze while we have a huge one all around. Best, Kari

Once you have stared in to the abyss, watches can be a pretty overrated thing and you realize the most basic things in life are the most beautiful and worth chasing. Being with your dear ones. Enjoying the beautiful nature. So, a simple, nice and reliable...
Thanks Christian - I will pass your regards.

Lapland is full of English tourists and in a couple of weeks the Chinese weeks will start. Luckily we are in the Middle of Nowhere but in 15 minutes in the Middle of Action. Best, Kari
Where did you take the photo?
By: dr.kol : December 27th, 2018-04:12
I have visited Lapland for 35 years and I have owned a house and some properties bere for 27 years. The house is far away from the local style. And it is too warm... Best, Kari
It was taken in Hokkaido, Japan. :)
By: fernando : December 27th, 2018-04:30
I guess you cannot fool the locals in Lapland with this one. The house looks out towards Lake Shikotsu. It was already too cold for me. Lake Shikotsu. Best fernando ...
There is a trick we have in Lapland.

Look and count from the end of the log the age of the pine used: You can "easily" count the number of the circles and each one represent one year of growth. But that's not the whole trick: the pine used is from the Arctic meaning the it is very tight and ...

I travel with a seiko monster limited edition. It's water proof and decent enough to wear with semi-formal attire. I typically go to the caribbean so no need for a dress watch. Now if I travel with two watches e.g. to a business convention, I'll either le...
I usually travel with only one watch.

If it’s a business trip, one dress watch, and if on vacation, usually a rubber or bracelet watch - usually a Berguet Marine or a Rolex DJ. Recently, a more understated one, the Linde Werdelin has made it to the ranks of favourite vacation watch, just beca...

If it disappeared for any reason, it’s not going to ruin the trip. For business trips, then one good watch, that I wear all the time. It’s not worth the risk taking a good watch that has sentimental value or is irreplaceable to a vacation place... My 2cen...

Don’t be afraid; live life!
I do...but I'm also a realist.
By: mdg : December 26th, 2018-18:10
San Francisco has (for a long time it's been sliding downhill) become a hell-hole. We have had our parked cars broken into more than once. The police can't be bothered to do anything about it. There are junkies and beggars everywhere and the filth/needles...
That doesn’t sound nice.
By: Arie - Mr Orange : December 27th, 2018-01:21
I have visited that city, but only for a few days...so can’t really tell. Although I’m guessing that in most big cities around the world one has to be a bit more on his toes. Enjoy Tokyo!
Just Back From Short Trip
By: Steve E : December 26th, 2018-17:33
Hi, I wore my Nautilus for a flight yesterday, but it was a brief domestic overnight USA trip. And it was never apart from me. For anything more extensive I'll often go with an older IWC, or sometimes an older Breitling Aerospace. On a recent trip to New ...
As many others have already said, the answer is destination dependent.
By: Jay (Eire) : December 26th, 2018-18:02
I travel to Japan, HK and Singapore regularly and for these trips I have no concern wearing a nice watch. In Europe and the US I may or may not adjust wristwear based on specific location, Seiko and Swatch being the ultimate backup should the destination ...
I travel only with one versatile watch
By: Boris : December 26th, 2018-18:11
Generally a Rolex 16570 or 214270, which are adequate in most settings, and tough enough to practice sports. Meaning I keep my watch on the wrist at all time and don't need to worry about the hotel safe.
Usually I only bring one...
