Are you taking into consideration the fact that batteries can be recycled? An internal combustion engine can also be recycled, but you cannot recycle the tons of fuel burnt by the engine over its lifetime.
Also, battery technology and charging efficiency is ever improving, while ICE efficiency has reached a practical limit. It took over 40 years to reach a 100% average increase in mpg, but under a decade for an electric car to triple its range from 100 to 300 miles.

Yeah, the way to go is to reduce production activities and consumption..
But with the world population continue increasing, lets see if technology would be able to support increased activities and consumption with lower carbon emissions.
What I'd like to see is for information distribution systems to stop being more and more like Tass. "That" is the best thing that could happen for the planet and the people on it.
Less information control and manipulation would lead to better decisions on everything.
