And I know so many dog and animal owners do the same. It is unfortunate to lose them, but they enrich our lives in countless ways.

I recalled your ferret at that time. That was incredibly difficult as well. Better now. I know it will come with Duncan, but at the moment, it is hard to see the path.

Both his life and yours were enriched from the companionship.

And you are right, we enriched each other. It is a good feeling to provide a great life for an animal.

I know how hard it is to lose a pet family member. It's awful.

They are real family members. As one good friend told me on the phone an hour ago, he loves his dogs more than most of his human family members. We can probably all relate some to that as well.

I know he was comforted to have his Family all with him. He was not scared. Thank you God for letting us all be with him at that moment.

I had to unexpectedly put down my dog last years and it was tough. 😞

As I interacted with Marcus above, as bad as this feels now, I am glad Duncan never suffered or endured a diminished quality of life. He was the same the entire time we had him, aside for the past 2 days.

Pains me just to think about this inevitability, as we have a 3 year old companion too. Hope you and the family find the strength to pull through this tough time, until we are all reunited again.

I suspect we will add another at some point, but right now I cannot even consider it. I know you will enjoy yours every day, and that is a great feeling for your family and your dog. I believe we will be reunited one day. My earthly time is up to God. But... 

The support here is lifting me up, and I will get there.

We gave him the best life possible, and I know God is proud of us for that.

my deepest condolences to you and your family. They may 'only' be animals but as far as I'm concerned they are almost human and close family. Losing them is heartbreaking. Duncan was a great boy and shared a wonderful life with you. Time will heal, and he... 

Duncan was by my side all the time. Although he never warmed up to the Nu-Vista, I guess it was a bit too loud for him. Fortunately, that is a separate room for that gear and Duncan otherwise had the run of the house.

I’m still amazed and humbled by the beautiful and honest souls that animals have. And when it comes to a pet that has become part of the family, their soul touches us that much more deeply.

We will hang our hats on knowing how happy Duncan was all the time. I could not tell you how many hours he was pet or held over the years by the Family. It must be in the thousands. He was with us every moment unless we were all out of the house at the sa... 

It is hard. I will see him again one day.

And I know many, if not most, have experienced this. And we all have with family and friends. Very difficult part of life.

So painful for u and your family. He had a great home, so in heaven there is rest and peace. My family and i lost out Fritz. He walked away in August 2022, and never came back. We still very hurt. We took action to post missing messages on animal websites...  

I imagine that adds even more difficulty to the grieving.

It is/has been/always will be my noble duty to see/hold/be there for my pets (most recently my beloved “bluecat”, Twinkle (16+ years of fantastic, amazing companionship (6/16/2006-10/6/2022), I completely “get it” and pray you will have peace and love for...

At least you have the wonderful memories of the time you had together.

As the pain lessens, I know these special times will take over. I wish I could push a button and be there, but it will be a while.

These dogs are like children to us and we know that one day we have to say goodbye … but we will never get used to that fact. I’m pretty sure he has had the best live he could ever live, he rests in peace now. Filip

But of course you don't dwell on it. The thought had crossed my mind in recent years, and the one thing I told myself was I would have to be with Duncan if he ever needed to be put down. And I am grateful that I was, holding him for his last breath.

When you love so much, these pets become real Family members.

He was Family and is missed tremendously.

I hope fond memories and the passage of time will ease the pain.

It is still very raw of course, not quite 2 days. I just made a coffee and 2 times looked towards his bed to see if he was watching me, as he used to do. I'm still in some shock about it.

They are like family members we love them so dearly. Over the last 3 years I lost one English and one French bulldog and I can say that a day does not go by that I don’t think of them. Remember the good times and the good years you spent with him.

We all must go through this side of the experience. I believe I will recall Duncan every day for as long as I live.

He’s faithfully waiting for his family in the big kennel in the sky. You’ll see your little man again!

All of our Faith is in Jesus and God. We wholeheartedly believe Duncan is there. It is a dream to imagine seeing him greet me at the Gates one day, God willing!

As someone who lost a pug when he was only 10 , I can imagine and relate to what you are going through . Life is so unfair at times 😔 My sincere condolences

I guess we all enter in knowing that one day... but 10 years is not long enough. We were over 12 and that still feels far too short. Thanks for your reply.

I still feel a lot of disbelief about it. My Duncan was chasing a deer on the property a few days earlier in the week. And then to go so suddenly... I snapped a final photo with my Son sitting next to him. Duncan looks perfect. It is just hard to believe.... 

I sympathize with your loss over your pal, and I expect you will still be missing him for a long time. But that's not all bad. My cat Tiger died about 15 months ago, also quite quickly, and sometimes I feel like he's still with us, just hiding. even recen...  

Tiger was absolutely beautiful. I guess the birds don't miss him as much. This morning before leaving for work I started walking towards his water bowl to refresh it like I did every day. I have not really made any progress yet.
