Our beloved Duncan has passed away.

 By: MichaelC : February 25th, 2023-14:59
I'm in some shock as I write this. Our beautiful Cairn Terrier, who was nearing 13 years old, was unexpectedly put down yesterday. We were optimistic we had plenty of time left. Duncan was a best Friend every day for me. His demeanor was amazing. Full of ...

A true best friend. Condolences

Thank you, John.

 By: MichaelC : February 25th, 2023-15:28

In time, for sure. We will get there.

 By: MichaelC : February 25th, 2023-15:29
Thanks John.

I am so sorry to hear that!

 By: Marcus Hanke : February 25th, 2023-15:13
Having lived through this several times now, the wounds that struck my heart still have not healed. After years, the pain is less, but the sorrow to lose such a close friend and companion is still there. You said it was unexpected? This is how we lost our...

He was running around normally just a few days ago.

 By: MichaelC : February 25th, 2023-15:36
That is what I am most grinding with. But at the same time it is a blessing, because he was fully healthy until just these 2 days ago. It was a primarily a heart problem, and related complications. We feel he had no discomfort until the very end, and to b...

I’m so sorry to hear this, please remember all the fantastic moments you had together.

 By: dedestexhes : February 25th, 2023-15:16
Having two Irish Terriers ourselves, I just can feel your pain… Warmest regards, Dirk

Thank you. We focus on exactly that, we gave him the best life possible.

 By: MichaelC : February 25th, 2023-15:39
And I know so many dog and animal owners do the same. It is unfortunate to lose them, but they enrich our lives in countless ways.

Indeed you do. We lost our guinea pig, Hazel, last July.

 By: MichaelC : February 25th, 2023-15:41
I recalled your ferret at that time. That was incredibly difficult as well. Better now. I know it will come with Duncan, but at the moment, it is hard to see the path.

Thanks dear Nicolas.

 By: MichaelC : February 25th, 2023-17:08

Beautiful boy. My condolences.

 By: pw927 : February 25th, 2023-15:47
Both his life and yours were enriched from the companionship.

He was a handsome fellow.

 By: MichaelC : February 25th, 2023-17:09
And you are right, we enriched each other. It is a good feeling to provide a great life for an animal.

I'm so sorry.

 By: Champthekid : February 25th, 2023-15:47
I know how hard it is to lose a pet family member. It's awful.

Thank you friend.

 By: MichaelC : February 25th, 2023-17:10

I know how it feels

 By: Bruno.M1 : February 25th, 2023-15:50
I guess you have to own a dog too to understand Remember the beautiful 13 years

It is true. This was our first dog and before I could not relate to this feeling.

 By: MichaelC : February 25th, 2023-17:12
They are real family members. As one good friend told me on the phone an hour ago, he loves his dogs more than most of his human family members. We can probably all relate some to that as well.

I feel with you, dear Michael…

 By: shortys home : February 25th, 2023-15:53
… our beloved Shorty left us 3 months ago and it still hurts every single day. Henrik

I'm sorry to read that, and I hope you are close to transitioning to the fond memories more than the pain.

 By: MichaelC : February 25th, 2023-17:14
I know it will take time. This is my first experience losing a dog. Part of me wonders how so many people can go through this multiple times. Thank you for your reply, Henrik.

Sorry to hear,

 By: Juliusotto : February 25th, 2023-16:52
I know your pain, unfortunately this pain will stay with us forever but time will manage to diminish it and let space for all the wonderful memories

That is very well stated.

 By: MichaelC : February 25th, 2023-17:15
And I believe those words. I'm not even 24 hours in, so I have lots of time to get there, but I will. Thank you for your reply.

RIP Duncan.

 By: InHavenPro : February 25th, 2023-16:55

As hard as the moment was, to hold him as he took his last breath...

 By: MichaelC : February 25th, 2023-17:17
I know he was comforted to have his Family all with him. He was not scared. Thank you God for letting us all be with him at that moment.

I’m very sorry for your lost

 By: MiguelFlash : February 25th, 2023-16:55
I had to unexpectedly put down my dog last years and it was tough. 😞

Sorry to read that.

 By: MichaelC : February 25th, 2023-17:19
As I interacted with Marcus above, as bad as this feels now, I am glad Duncan never suffered or endured a diminished quality of life. He was the same the entire time we had him, aside for the past 2 days.

Deepest condolences.

 By: APROchrono : February 25th, 2023-16:56
Pains me just to think about this inevitability, as we have a 3 year old companion too. Hope you and the family find the strength to pull through this tough time, until we are all reunited again.

I appreciate your encouragement.

 By: MichaelC : February 25th, 2023-17:22
I suspect we will add another at some point, but right now I cannot even consider it. I know you will enjoy yours every day, and that is a great feeling for your family and your dog. I believe we will be reunited one day. My earthly time is up to God. But...

Thanks my friend.

 By: MichaelC : February 26th, 2023-01:05

Indeed. Thank you dear Fab.

 By: MichaelC : February 26th, 2023-01:08
The support here is lifting me up, and I will get there.

I’m sorry for your loss of a family member.

 By: RabidManatee : February 25th, 2023-17:24
I’m sure you and yours gave him a great life.

I said that to my Family yesterday when we were with Duncan.

 By: MichaelC : February 26th, 2023-01:09
We gave him the best life possible, and I know God is proud of us for that.

My condolences!

A faithful dog is a real family member!

I feel for you,

 By: ant : February 25th, 2023-18:24
my deepest condolences to you and your family. They may 'only' be animals but as far as I'm concerned they are almost human and close family. Losing them is heartbreaking. Duncan was a great boy and shared a wonderful life with you. Time will heal, and he...

There is so much understanding here, I really appreciate.

 By: MichaelC : February 26th, 2023-01:13
Duncan was by my side all the time. Although he never warmed up to the Nu-Vista, I guess it was a bit too loud for him. Fortunately, that is a separate room for that gear and Duncan otherwise had the run of the house.

That picture speaks volumes to how close and great he was. I’m so sorry for your loss.

 By: ArmisT : February 25th, 2023-18:37
I’m still amazed and humbled by the beautiful and honest souls that animals have. And when it comes to a pet that has become part of the family, their soul touches us that much more deeply.

Beautiful and honest souls - so well said dear friend.

 By: MichaelC : February 26th, 2023-01:13
Thank you for the support.

Thanks, matto.

Much appreciated, Abel.

We will hang our hats on knowing how happy Duncan was all the time. I could not tell you how many hours he was pet or held over the years by the Family. It must be in the thousands. He was with us every moment unless we were all out of the house at the sa...

Thank you Jocke. He really was a best friend.

 By: MichaelC : February 26th, 2023-01:18
It is hard. I will see him again one day.

A hard day.

 By: myles721 : February 25th, 2023-19:57
I sure do know how you feel… ...

What a beauty. The support here is overwhelming.

 By: MichaelC : February 26th, 2023-01:20
And I know many, if not most, have experienced this. And we all have with family and friends. Very difficult part of life.

Noble Duty

My heart is crying

 By: Weems@8 : February 25th, 2023-20:21
So painful for u and your family. He had a great home, so in heaven there is rest and peace. My family and i lost out Fritz. He walked away in August 2022, and never came back. We still very hurt. We took action to post missing messages on animal websites...

Your words are meaningful. And sorry to read about Fritz.

 By: MichaelC : February 26th, 2023-01:21
I imagine that adds even more difficulty to the grieving.

Noble Duty

 By: Bluecat 128 : February 26th, 2023-18:06
It is/has been/always will be my noble duty to see/hold/be there for my pets (most recently my beloved “bluecat”, Twinkle (16+ years of fantastic, amazing companionship (6/16/2006-10/6/2022), I completely “get it” and pray you will have peace and love for...

Condolences.

Thanks, Dom.

I’m sorry to hear this news …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : February 25th, 2023-20:53
At least you have the wonderful memories of the time you had together.

Many memories indeed.

 By: MichaelC : February 26th, 2023-01:23
As the pain lessens, I know these special times will take over. I wish I could push a button and be there, but it will be a while.

Ode to Tiger

 By: Weems@8 : February 25th, 2023-22:24
When Mike and his wife loose Tiger, i wrote on the strap of my Roamer the text, rest in peace Tiger. ...

Very touching!

 By: MichaelC : February 26th, 2023-01:24

So many here know the feelings.

 By: MichaelC : February 26th, 2023-01:24
And I feel for all of you as well. I was inclined to post as others have before me. The support is much appreciated.

My turn it seems. And we all know the pain will never overtake the countless good times we have.

 By: MichaelC : February 26th, 2023-01:25
I will get there. The support here is awesome. Thank you.

😢

Thanks so much, Sal.

 By: MichaelC : February 26th, 2023-01:26

So sorry for your loss :(

 By: bimbeano : February 25th, 2023-23:27
These dogs are like children to us and we know that one day we have to say goodbye … but we will never get used to that fact. I’m pretty sure he has had the best live he could ever live, he rests in peace now. Filip

That sure is the truth. You know that day is coming

 By: MichaelC : February 26th, 2023-02:12
But of course you don't dwell on it. The thought had crossed my mind in recent years, and the one thing I told myself was I would have to be with Duncan if he ever needed to be put down. And I am grateful that I was, holding him for his last breath.

Difficult times ...

 By: bimbeano : February 26th, 2023-19:55
.. almost feels like when you loose a human being ... well, these animals are human to us ... Stay strong ! Filip

You are absolutely right.

 By: MichaelC : February 28th, 2023-13:50
When you love so much, these pets become real Family members.

You know it, Tony. Duncan was much more than a pet for our Family.

 By: MichaelC : February 26th, 2023-02:19
He was Family and is missed tremendously.

Michael, I'm so sorry for your sudden loss of dear Duncan.

 By: CR : February 26th, 2023-04:09
I hope fond memories and the passage of time will ease the pain.

I believe those 2 things will help us through

 By: MichaelC : February 26th, 2023-13:25
It is still very raw of course, not quite 2 days. I just made a coffee and 2 times looked towards his bed to see if he was watching me, as he used to do. I'm still in some shock about it.

I’m so sorry to hear this..

 By: jp884 : February 26th, 2023-04:30
They are like family members we love them so dearly. Over the last 3 years I lost one English and one French bulldog and I can say that a day does not go by that I don’t think of them. Remember the good times and the good years you spent with him.

Thank you. Owning a dog or cat or other animal is so common

 By: MichaelC : February 26th, 2023-13:27
We all must go through this side of the experience. I believe I will recall Duncan every day for as long as I live.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Duncan….

 By: NickO : February 26th, 2023-18:23
He’s faithfully waiting for his family in the big kennel in the sky. You’ll see your little man again!

Thank you Nick, I am really counting on it.

 By: MichaelC : February 27th, 2023-01:57
All of our Faith is in Jesus and God. We wholeheartedly believe Duncan is there. It is a dream to imagine seeing him greet me at the Gates one day, God willing!

Our heartfelt condolences to you and your family, Michael

 By: AlexSunrise : February 26th, 2023-18:59
From your photo, it is easy to tell Duncan was a wonderful pup and companion. May he rejoice in Puppy Heaven. Kind regards, Alex

I have been sharing the tremendous support with my Family.

 By: MichaelC : February 27th, 2023-02:00
It means so much right now. Thank you dear Alex.

So so sorry to hear this

 By: Centurionone : February 27th, 2023-01:42
As someone who lost a pug when he was only 10 , I can imagine and relate to what you are going through . Life is so unfair at times 😔 My sincere condolences

And I am sorry to hear about your pug :-(

 By: MichaelC : February 27th, 2023-02:02
I guess we all enter in knowing that one day... but 10 years is not long enough. We were over 12 and that still feels far too short. Thanks for your reply.

Sorry to hear

 By: sschew : February 27th, 2023-01:52
hurts like hell. Just try to remember all the good times which will bring a tear and a smile.

Thanks Sir. I know time will heal much of the pain.

 By: MichaelC : February 28th, 2023-13:53
I still feel a lot of disbelief about it. My Duncan was chasing a deer on the property a few days earlier in the week. And then to go so suddenly... I snapped a final photo with my Son sitting next to him. Duncan looks perfect. It is just hard to believe....

It takes time to heal

 By: cazalea : February 28th, 2023-16:35
I sympathize with your loss over your pal, and I expect you will still be missing him for a long time. But that's not all bad. My cat Tiger died about 15 months ago, also quite quickly, and sometimes I feel like he's still with us, just hiding. even recen...

Thanks for your reply, Mike.

 By: MichaelC : March 1st, 2023-02:49
Tiger was absolutely beautiful. I guess the birds don't miss him as much. This morning before leaving for work I started walking towards his water bowl to refresh it like I did every day. I have not really made any progress yet.
